Acupuncture a PsuedoScience or Not – Baffles Many

Hike the great outdoors – stay fit, meditate and connect with nature.

Updated: 18 May 2017

At one point in my life I sought alternate treatment for severe back pain.  I only did so after all other conventional treatments had failed.

It’s true physical therapy, diet, ideal body weight, prescriptions and exercise do help with weight bearing, pre-post surgery pain relief and the healing process.

But when you have substantial structural and neurological damage in/around bone and soft tissue which includes tendons, ligaments and muscle, you’re most certain to experience varying levels of acute and chronic pain for long periods of time.

For those that go under the knife to correct and alleviate pain, risk of complications do occur.   Under the best case surgical scenario, repair with significant pain relief is experienced – but not guaranteed.

Because of my unique pain story, I preferred to work around the pain centers throughout the body using alternative pain relief methods.  Since there’s no guarantee surgeries could provide a pain free experience… “I ventured into acupuncture.”

At one point in my life I would have tried any type of pain relief modality opposed to surgery.  Whether I believed it would work or not.  And at that time acupuncture was something I didn’t have a lot of faith in “but I was running out of options and desperate to reduce pain spikes.”

My current thoughts on acupuncture – “Ultimately I became a believer.”  I’m not exactly sure how it physiologically improves function and heals at a cellular level.  BUT I do see how it can relieve pain through stimulation of chemical and electrical transmitters in the body.

I also understand our bodies have this “Chi” energy force that travels throughout our neurological or meridian highways.   Where electrical-chemical energy flow can become blocked through illness, disease and injury and creates inflammation and neurological pain.  And when acupuncture needles are inserted at various points along these highways, energy flow that was once blocked can become unblocked.  And when that happens pain is relieved.

Self healing occurs by-way of many life energy and brain, body and spirit activation and lifestyle choices.

In various cultures the energy flowing through our neurological highways is not only known as Chi.  But can be seen or understood as life energy and cross-compared, or liken to Prana, life force, Spirit, subtle and vital energy, etc.  If you want to know more about these things simply google those terms on the Internet.

For me acupuncture worked, “However at first, I was baffled on exactly how.”

I can only explain it in the following manner.  “I think of my body with millions of electrical circuits where one has shorted somewhere, or was inflamed through illness or disease or injury and sending pain signals to the brain.  Whereas the pain signal can be temporarily or permanently relieved through a by-pass, or neighboring circuit… in effect – pain signal to the brain can be removed or neutralized.”  This does not mean your free of cellular disease or neurological damage.

“A relatable analogy would be similar to an electrical circuit that powers a lightbulb.”  If you take electrical current to earth ground instead of sending it to the brain-bulb or switch-ON for pain – In essence the circuit is dead, “SWITCH-OFF” and pain gone.

Western medicine defines, relates and applies acupuncture treatment in the following manner.

“Approximately 2,000 different acupuncture points lie along the body’s meridians. The idea behind acupuncture is that stimulating these points with acupuncture needles or pressure relieves obstructions in the flow of energy, enabling the body to heal.”

“In the Western view, acupuncture likely works by stimulating the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) to release chemicals called neurotransmitters and hormones. These chemicals dull pain, boost the immune system and regulate various body functions (Watson 2017).”

These concepts and principles are easy to visualize through my mind’s eye.  Since I have an electrical-mechanical background and physiological knowledge through undergraduate studies… my mind accepts both Eastern and Western acupuncture healing and pain relief relationship logic.  Regardless of whether Western medicine can fully explain through empirical data the exact healing agents on brain and body function… I accept it’s healing principles and believe in it.  “Belief is half the battle to curing what ails the mind, body and spirit.”  At least I believe this like many others.

Many scientists consider acupuncture a pseudoscience because it cannot be proven through a controlled lab environment why it works for some, not others and why it works at all.  I can completely understand the difficulty of creating a blind study where trial subjects wouldn’t know whether a needle was sticking them for example; while another group in the study was actually stuck.  Plus cause and pain level sensitivities is often subjective and not substantiated through medical diagnosis.

Exercise helps us to heal, stay fit and healthy. Yoga and Tie chi are said to provide similar benefits.  Trying something outside the mainstream to feel well is worth the endeavor.

I believe if you believe something is possible the psychosomatic (mind/body) meridian highway healing connection can be made to greater degree.  That is the portion of brain during meridian stimulation effectively releases electrical-chemical healing agents to a target area.

Understanding these connections and relationship allows those like myself (meditative-alternative medicine believer) to channel the acupuncture stimulant point to target and heal damaged cell tissues, including nerve pain.

I can tell you there are different techniques used by acupuncturists when getting stuck with tiny micro-thin needles.

Many years ago, I experienced two different styles of Chinese acupuncture.  A hard and soft style.  “Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the most common form of acupuncture studied and practiced in the United States.  Japanese style acupuncture takes a more subtle route than TCM.  Fewer and thinner needles are used with less stimulation (Acufinder.com 2017).”

For me, “during TMC treatment the needles were inserted deep into my low back and caused discomfort and aggravation during treatment.”  They were inserted fast and hit damaged nerves frequently with precision.  After needle insertion an electrical pulsating current was sent through wire leads attached to the needles – then stimulated the damaged neurons under the skin.  Eventually this treatment would reroute the pain signal away from the brains central nervous system.

During Japanese style acupuncture the needles were more delicately inserted and didn’t penetrate deep into the skin.  I didn’t feel any discomfort during these treatments.

When I first experienced acupuncture, the TMC needle insertion technique although painful seemed to turn-off a lot of pain centers in the brain for me.  After 10 sessions I called it good.  Although I considered TMC a success, it was during the tenth session a needle hit a sensitive nerve in the low back that caused me to jolt.  This was followed by a back spasm and a bit of cussing “Don’t judge… God that hurt bad.”  I did finish the session gritting my way through it and refrained from further cussing.

Thereafter and understandably so, I had fear of going back for more treatment.  I didn’t ask for another referral from my HMO.  Instead I sought out Japanese style acupuncture to help alleviate a little more pain – as I didn’t finish the referred 25 TMC sessions.

I increased fitness levels and further minimized pain aggravation during acupuncture treatment through aerobic pool exercise.

If you have a lot of nerve damage and areas of the body are pain-sensitive to touch – Japanese style preparation prior to needle insertion is a very good treatment protocol.

The preparation and process works like this: Very light massage, relaxation and suction cup may be used.  They are heated cups placed on skin surface and along meridian pathways.  When cooling cause a suction [or vacuum] – draws oxygenated blood to damaged tissue area to increase blood circulation and expedite healing process.

Thereafter electro stimulation via inserted needles may be applied.  This technique worked wonders to remove more back pain.  Needles were not only inserted in the low back, but other parts of the body to help relieve radiating nerve pain.

To this day my total body pain is very manageable and allows me to live life to the fullest.  I’ve not seen an acupuncturists for years.

I’ve read a few blogger sites on the benefits/to no benefits of using acupuncture.  The feelings on it is a mixed bag.  It’s considered by many who believe in Eastern medicine a natural science that can heal and alleviate pain and may/may not cure disease.  To Western medicine practitioners, many professionals and lay persons at best believe it’s a pseudoscience that’s falls into categories more like magic and faith healing.

Instead of trying to convince you acupuncture may work for you, I think it is best to leave the following thoughts and insight.

What secrets will mother nature reveal next.

Like Pranic healing – modern science does not understand and has no way to prove how acupuncture and life “Chi” energy actually heals and alleviates pain for some and not others.

Or how technique or application  could be improved to be effective 100% of the time for all.  Some would challenge brain capacity, function and control over the body’s self-healing connections have something to do with its effectiveness.

I’d agree “maybe some lack the connective brain function or capacity to accept or believe an alternative healing method outside of Western medicine could help.”  Therefore self-healing through meditation or acupuncture or Pranic healing, etc., won’t work.

Unfortunately unless science can unequivocally prove something… it is open to public scrutiny, personal disbelief and a failed opportunity for whom it could work if they simply believed.

But this should not limit people to reason how the impossible can become possible than believe.  Simply reflect on a few of man’s unbelievable achievements throughout history.

For example, it was impossible for man to fly, let alone sore through space and land on the moon.  Or, until Penicillin as an effective antibiotic was discovered.  Many with serious disease through infection were doomed to die with no hope of a cure.  During historical times, cultural and scientific positions based on beliefs could not think out side of any box.  But todays anti-aging and healing science appears to know no limit of possibilities.

“For the self-healing and alternative medicine believer – Meditative and Spiritual untapped brain function has the healing energy capacity necessary to cure what ails us.”  [MirrorAthlete]

I agree like many of you “science does not know everything about brain capacity and function and self-healing.”  It has long been said people on earth only use 10% of their brain capacity.   This too is controversial due to opposing views of natural selection.  Since the brain tissue has metabolically evolved throughout time, to lose 90% of capacity would have catastrophic consequences on the human regulation of body function…  What if brain capacity increased 1-2% up to, or over that 10% without body function affliction.  I believe this has already been accomplished by faith healers, spiritual mediators and protégées to name a few?  “Think outside that box!”  There’s no scientific proof using more brain capacity to increase IQ or self-heal is harmful to health.

In relating to this line of reasoning – acupuncture and panic healing may open a 2% healing mind-body-spiritual opportunity to increase brain capacity and bodily function to heal damaged cellular tissue and get well.   Just because science can’t prove how brain capacity and body function coordinate above and beyond what natural selection scholars, the medical community and scientists can prove – doesn’t mean self-healing and alternative medicine doesn’t work.

Since most aren’t educated and trained in meditative and alternative medicine and therapeutic practices, if open to the wellness and healing possibilities allow someone schooled in it to help.

Do what you enjoy pain free. Believe!

If you have acute, chronic or severe pain regardless of what the cause, what have you got to lose?  Give acupuncture a try?  What doesn’t work for others may work for you?  You may have the ability to unlock the Chi force hidden within part of your untapped brain capacity reserve and make use of it like I did to restore pain free mobility function.

I believe one day science will prove through empirical trials how and why acupuncture works for some patients and not others.  Then hopefully educate everyone on how to tap this self-healing power.

Like Einstein’s Theory of Relativity “Time was no longer uniform and absolute.” Physics could no longer be understood as space by itself, hence space and time was also dependent on velocity.  Until this time Isaac Newton’s physics and astronomy stood as a 200-year-old theory of mechanics.

Acupuncture is thousands of years old.  But has only been accepted in Western medicine and studied for decades.  What has Western medicine yet to discover about the practice as applied to individual life force healing energy?  Will it take 200 years or more to discover all of it’s secrets?  Who knows.

If you want to try acupuncture and your primary care physician won’t refer you, or it’s not covered in your health insurance there are 3 things you can do.

During your employer annual health insurance selections – pick a provider or policy that covers acupuncture [most HMO policies offer it].  Or, if you have coverage for this service, but a physician won’t refer for whatever reason, request a new primary care physician.  Or request of your primary care physician a referral to a physiatrist.  A physiatrist is a pain management medical [doctor-specialist] and will likely refer you to an acupuncturist if you request it.

What is Pranic Healing and does it Work?

Meditation and relaxing environments lower stress and can heal the mind, body and soul.

Updated:  10 May 2017

It is said that our bodies emit an aura of energy, or body’s life energy.  Our body represents two planes of reality; a visible (physical body) and invisible (bioplastic matter, also known as bio-electromagnetic energy).  It is also said by clairvoyants this 4-5inch luminous energy surrounding our body is our etheric (energy body), or body double.  And if one understands how to manipulate this etheric aura, than one has the ability to self heal and heal others.  Pranic healing is a no-touch energy that originated and was developed by GrandMaster Choa Kok Sul.

Through pushing life energy from the body, a pranic healer can assist others in healing by moving absorbed life energy to heal the physical body, i.e., muscles, glands and organs.  This healing is accomplished without any physical touch from the healer, or patient.  It’s more of the mind’s recognition that this bioplastic matter exists and energy of aura can be redirected to heal.

Pranic healing is an ancient science that uses energy medicine prana [a Sanskrit word meaning life force] to transform, balance and direct the body’s bio-energy to effect healing change within those that are experiencing ill-health.  This art of healing manipulates prana “ki” (life energy) to heal.  All of us possess the capability to self-repair our living entity.  We only need awareness of “ki” and the meditation energy redirect skills to alleviate, or remove ill-health.

IMG_1245

Heaven on Earth

Our prana is feed from three major sources of earth energy: Solar (sunlight and water exposed by sunlight absorption and consumption), air (deep breathing daily exercises), ground (absorbed through the feet).  Note:  1) Fresh food has more prana than preserved foods.  2)  The air energy centers of the bio-plastic body are also referred to as “chakras.”  3)  Walking barefoot as well as 5-10min of sunlight is also said to be good for the bio-plastic being.  4) Lie down under old oak trees for example that exude and transfer earth energy to being.   5)  Circle yourself around others that are not depressed with lots of positive energy.  These positive energies will transfer to you as a preventative application in self-healing.  6) During inclement weather have a plan to exercise and/or consciously absorb prana from the ground and air.

One also benefits by learning how to draw in more energy from earth energy such as, instead of short shallow breathing, one learns the practice of deep breathing.  Those with a lot of excess prana can share this healing power with others in need of healing. For example, before a pranic healing session with a practitioner:  Slowly breathe into the nose for a mental count of 8 then slowly exhale through the nose for the same count. Practice this breathing exercise while feeling the panic energy throughout the entire body as you next slowly inhale for a count of 8 and then exhale for a count of 4 through the mouth.  Go back to the 8 count inhale/exhale and feel all the negative energy leave the body.

You are now ready for the self-healing or assisted healing exercise.  You than draw a circle around, or on the body to focus on where the healing life energy is needed if need be.  This can be done within a hospital setting as well by lining a roped circle around the entire patient bed.  White energy can then be focused on the area(s) of healing by the practitioner and patient as the body is positioned easterly.  With each passing of the healers hand approximately 1 inch away from the body and then waving hands to remove the negative energy, healing is than replaced over the affected part of the body with positive white energy.  This process is repeated multiple times which leaves the healer exhausted.  This exhaustion for many is a sign that good energy and healing transference has occurred.

IMG_1067

Harness Natures Energy

The basic law that allows this healing to work is based on our aura life energy blue print and self-recovery.  When the energy flow is disrupted through illness, injury or disease so is the life flow energy.  The body does work to repair itself, or recover weather one is familiar with the life energy blue print, or not.  However, with life energy knowledge, the bodies healing can be accelerated by using this life energy to change a chemical reaction in the body.  Pranic energy serves as the catalyst to shift bio-chemical reactions focused on illness to accelerate healing.

The affected area shows the healer a bioplastic-electromagnetic anomaly signature even before the physical body becomes ill.  For those that become aware of bioplastic energy and self healing life force practices can receive significant healing benefits.

Science is not yet able to measure, or detect life energy with the naked eye.  However with the use of Kirlian photography the energy body is rediscovered.  This technology allows scientists to study our bioplastic body doubles.  It is through this bioplastic body life force our concentrated energy can be centered to heal the physical body.

Many of you reading this article will read with skepticism because it is not something you can see or science can accurately measure.  But consider this before you turn a blind eye to this natural healing practice.  For thousands of years mankind was blind to electricity, light wave spectrum, solar energy, time warp, dark matter, genome nano-processing technology to heal what ails us, etc.

Now these energy technologies are measurable and detected all around and within us and used by consumer and industries to light home and facilities, microwave food, heal us, make guided laxer missiles and spacecraft to defend us and explore the universe, etc.

Ignorance in reality often occurs when science does not understand, or can’t provide quantified data.  How long will it take science to unlock the secrets of the universe?  My point, if your waiting on science to cure what ails you, I highly recommend you consider pranic self healing therapy while working parallel with Western medicine practices to increase your chances of accelerating the natural healing processes if you’ve exhausted all other avenues.

I’ve watched video’s on the pranic healing practice.  Simply go to your search engine, type in Pranic Healing and watch these miraculous healing videos.  Physicians and group healer workshops assist and teach patients how to heal themselves and others.   Various cultures use Prana to heal but have different names for life energy healing.  So when you do your research, check under Greek healing (called pneuma); Polynesian healing (mana); Hebrew healing (ruah “breath of energy”).

Who can use and apply pranic healing?  Anyone of average intelligence and an open mind can learn pranic healing which is said to be easier than learning to drive a car.

Acupuncture How Does it Work?

21 12 2011

Explore and Live in a World Without Pain

About 5 years ago I sought acupuncture for severe low back pain.

And I only did so after all other Western medicines had failed to significantly alleviate my daily back pain.  For me, it is true that combinations of physical therapy, diet, body weight maintenance, pharmaceuticals and exercise do help.  But when you have substantial physical and physiological damage in bone and soft tissue which includes tendons, ligaments and muscle, you’ll always feel a certain amount of acute to varying chronic pain.  For those that go under the knife to correct and alleviate pain, you are also at risk of creating more pain.  Each one of us must weigh the benefit to risk ratio of surgery vs. quality living and pain management.  And in the best case surgical scenarios, significant pain relief can be experienced but not guaranteed.

Because of my unique pain story, I prefer to work around the pain trigger points through daily exercise while trying different types of therapeutic pain management programs as opposed to more surgery.  As I stated, there is no guarantee that surgery will provide a pain free experience.  With that being said, I ventured into acupuncture.  At that point in my life I would have tried any type of therapeutic pain modality to relieve my pain whether I believed in it or not.  And at that time acupuncture was something I didn’t have a lot of faith in, but I was running short of options to relieve my low back pain.  Also, at the time, surgery was too risky for me because the probability of a worst case scenario was great.

My thoughts on acupuncture and to this day, I’m not sure how it really works, but I’ve mentally focused on electrical energy flowing throughout my body to assist in the healing power.  I do know our bodies have this “Chi” energy force that travels throughout our neurological highways where energy flow becomes blocked through illness, disease and injury which creates pain.  And when acupuncture needles are inserted at various points along these energy Chi meridian pathways: energy flow that was once blocked can become unblocked.  And if these highways become unblocked your pain can be substantially alleviated.  In various cultures this energy is not only called, or known as Chi, this life energy is also known as Prana, life force, Spirit, subtle and vital energy to name a few.

For me personally, acupuncture provides pain alleviation.  I can only explain it like this, I think of my body as an electrical circuit that has shorted somewhere and is giving me pain.  I know if I can remove the shorted circuit through another parallel neurological highway I can turn off much of the pain that would otherwise be signaled back to my brain.  If you’ve had injury, the damage is still there, however, the pain signal can be turned off.

This is easy for me to visualize through my mind’s eye.  Since I have an electrical background and physiological knowledge of the body these two things appear to allow my mind to accept this healing process; regardless of whether medical science has figured out a way to prove this in trial studies.  Which to date, they have not.

Many scientists consider acupuncture a pseudoscience because it cannot be proven through Western medical scientific trial the benefit of the needles, preparatory relaxation-meditation vs. variations of protocol needle insert techniques etc.   Also under what conditions it works, or what causes it to work for some but not others.  I can completely understand the difficulty of creating a blind study where test patients wouldn’t know whether a needle was sticking them for example, while others in the study were actually stuck in order to understand the significance of the skin penetration vs. no penetration and pain alleviation benefit.

I believe if you believe something is possible, through the psychosomatic (mind/body) healing relationship, the portion of the brain that allows healing through belief and visualization also allows healing of the body through the many electrical meridian circuits throughout the body.   Understanding this relationship allows those like I to channel acupuncture needle point connections to flow energy one way while diverting it from signaling pain back to the brain.

I will tell you there are different techniques used by acupuncturists when getting stuck with these tiny micro-thin needles.  Five years ago, I experienced two different aggressive styles of Chinese acupuncture that when these needles were manipulated into my low back caused great pain when setting the needles.  Thereafter, electrical current was added through wire leads with electrical source equipment sending pulsating electrical stimulation.  Although low voltage electricity is added within some therapy sessions, this is not always the case or necessary for acupuncture to work.

When I first experienced acupuncture, the hard manipulative needle insertion technique although painful seemed to turn-off a lot of the severe pain at the time.  After 10 sessions I called it good.  And because of the tenth session where a needle hit a sensitive nerve in my low back causing me to jolt, which was followed by a back spasm.  I didn’t go back after that.  This is because I hyper extended my low back while lying face down on the table.  Man, did that hurt; I was sweating bullets while that needle was manipulated into place.  I did finish that therapy session.

Thereafter and rightfully so, I had fear of going back to an acupuncturist and didn’t ask for another referral.  However, years later with a bit more education under my belt, I sought out a soft Chinese style acupuncturist that focused on various modalities prior to needle insertion.  Sensitive areas of the body to touch do much better with a soft style preparation acupuncturist prior to needle insertion.  Very light massage, relaxation and suction cup appearing devices to increase blood circulation allow for easy insertion without needle manipulation in hyper-sensitive painful areas using a shallow needle insertion technique.  Thereafter electro stimulation to the needles is applied in some sessions while not others.  This technique works well for me to remove the severe pain.

You ask why I went back after a jolt that hurt my back 5 years ago.  Because, even after that experience, I knew I received a pain relief benefit, before and after the jolt.  The years following that session, I knew I received significant pain relief.  To this day, my back is more pain free than had I not received any acupuncture.  Yet when you look at my x-rays and MRI’s, the injury sites throughout my back continue to worsen.  I don’t want the surgery if I can continue to manage the pain with various pain relief techniques.  So I figured, why not give it another shot.  Life must continue on, so I look for therapy that works in order to avoid surgery, so I can stay productive.

As of recent, I’ve gone through another series of acupuncture using the shallow needle penetration with suction cups, and electrical stimulation to increase blood flow after the needles are set to include meditation prior to and during the session.  The sharp unbearable radiating pain in my neck is gone.  However, the chronic achy dull arthritic pain is always present throughout my back which I can manage.  For me this is significant pain relief for which I’m thankful my health insurance pays.

I’ve read a few blogger sites on the benefits/to no benefits of using acupuncture.  The feelings on acupuncture are mixed throughout the medical and general community.  It’s considered by many that believe in Eastern medicine modalities as a valued natural science that can heal and alleviate pain and cure disease.  To Western medicine practitioners, many professionals and lay persons believe at best acupuncture is a pseudoscience that’s falls into categories more like magic and faith healing.

Instead of trying to convince you that acupuncture works, I think it is best to leave you with the following insight.  Like Pranic healing (link listed below), there is much our modern medical science does not understand and has no way to prove through clinical trials how life “Chi” energy actually heals and alleviates pain.  But to make a comparison of the misunderstood not too long ago, one must simply recall the thought process, “it was impossible for man to fly, let alone sore through space and land on the moon.”  Or, until Penicillin as an effective antibiotic was discovered; many with serious disease through infection were doomed to die with no hope of a cure.  During the times, these beliefs could think no other way with any solution that would ever change the outcome until science proved otherwise many years later.

I believe there is much in the world science does not understand about the human mind and body.  Let me give you one more relevant example.  It has long been said people on earth only use 10% of their brains capacity.   This too is controversial due to the “natural selection” concept.  Since the brain tissue has metabolically evolved throughout time, and to lose 90% of capacity would have catastrophic consequences on the human regulation of the body is the controversy in dispelling the 10% brain capacity use.

So maybe we are using a 100% of metabolic brain function, but maybe not 100% healing function within another part of the brain.  Is this line of reasoning possible?  Of course it is.  But then again, how do you prove this scientifically?  As of to date, science can’t.  So in relating this line of reasoning to the naysayer’s; acupuncture is just as valid for those that believe it works, so it works!  Just because a scientific relative blind study to prove it works has not been accomplished to date, does not mean it doesn’t work.  Science to date does not have the knowledge to empirically prove it.

Let’s assume our brains have room to evolve to make use of our Chi energy, even though science cannot tell you how it works for sure.  So if we dare to think there is room for evolving of the brain-body connection, we could think the following:  if science does not know how the healing Chi energy works using needles, there is no way to test each of our healing brain-body connections.  Each one of us that experiences a pain relief benefit may use a different part of the brain, brain function, or cognitive skill connection to the body when the needles are inserted, which activate the healing life force connection.  This would explain why it works for some and not others.  Others may be more or less in touch with this part of the healing brain-body connection.  I’m not sure how science would test these variables in a blind study.  Here lies the empirical sample test dilemma in proving the healing benefits connection using acupuncture.

So I’d say to you, if you have severe pain and have exhausted Western medicine resources, regardless of the negative opinion about acupuncture, what have you got to lose?  What doesn’t work for others may work for you?  You may have the ability to unlock a Chi force that is hidden within 90% of an untapped brain function that others like I are able to unlock.  And consider this, there must be some validity to it because many HMO practitioners refer pain patients to acupuncturists whether they completely believe in it or not.  And many health insurers cover the cost!  So there must be something to it.

I know surgery and/or chiropractics is not the answer for “my” pain relief without causing further damage to my weight bearing structure.  I’ve been able to avoid much of the pain pitfalls that these two practices, had I accepted the referrals and treatments may have worsened my pain story.  The key is, get more than one, or two opinions before you do something radical if you have a choice.  You cannot reverse damage caused through over manipulation of bone, tendon and ligaments, and a surgery that went bad.

I believe one day science will prove through relative and valid empirical trials how and why acupuncture works for many patients.  But like Einstein’s Theory of Relativity “Time was no longer uniform and absolute.” Physics could no longer be understood as space by itself, hence space and time was also dependant on velocity.  Until this time Isaac Newton’s physics and astronomy stood as a 200-year-old theory of mechanics.  So you see through time man evolves in many different depths of knowledge and understanding within the world we live, as well as the bodies we live in.

Listed below, I’ve left some links that further explain how acupuncture and Pranic healing may help you to alleviate your pain by activating a part of your brain that to date is unexplained scientifically, but for many this healing practice works.

If you want to try acupuncture and your primary physician does not believe in it, and won’t refer you, or it’s not covered in your health insurance program, there are 3 things you can do.  During your employer annual health insurance selections pick a provider or policy that covers acupuncture within its listed services.  Or, if you have coverage for this service, but your referring physician does not believe in acupuncture and won’t refer you, request a new primary care physician.  Or request from your current primary care physician to be referred to a physiatrist.  Physiatrists are pain management specialists with an arsenal of pain modality resources for which one, if covered by your HMO will refer you to an acupuncturist if you’re willing to give it a try.

Oxygen Uptake Breathing for Ill-Health Prevention

17 04 2011
Get Out and Breathe Nature’s Air

Science shows us that those that don’t breathe correctly experience mood swings, depression, anxiety and other stress-related illnesses.  And the primary reason these disorders occur is because many of us live inactive lifestyles that promote shallow breathing.  What do I mean by this?  Think about it.  As you sit there and read this article, you’ll note that your intake of air expands your diaphragm one quarter to half a chest expansion.  Now that you’re thinking about it, take a deep breath in and exhale.  You see, you weren’t breathing fully.  Why do I bring you this example?

If you understand what shallow breathing is than you can understand that half of your lung capacity is not being exercised, nor is your cardiopulmonary system.  What does this mean?  It means that a portion of your lungs are constantly living in a carbon dioxide environment, partially void of oxygen.  And why is this bad for prolonged periods of time?  The most obvious symptoms you should be aware are fatigue, lack of mental focus-energy and decreased metabolic function, which for many equates to weight gain.

Through time and without adequate activity shallow breathing promotes decreases in the lungs capacity to expand maximally and eventually lack of oxygen delivery to tissues creates other ill-health conditions.

How does shallow breathing impact blood pressure?  Since the hearts action is involuntary it can only respond to demand on the heart.  If the heart senses a drop in oxygen to the body, it will pump more blood, even during sedentary activity.  Also, these increases in blood pressure and heart rate occur during exercise activity.  However, active exercise that is a cause and effect on increased blood pressure and heart rate has a relaxing and healthy effect on the mind and body after the task.  Whereas, and throughout time, shallow breathing, lacking activity has a detriment on the body and mind by decreasing lung capacity, blood pressure and carbon dioxide exchange within all cellular structure.

It is also true that the body requires an oxygenated environment to burn fat more effectively which occurs during aerobic activity.  Walking and jogging are the best forms of aerobic activity.  Deep breathing exercises practiced through yoga classes for example, or at home frequently will increase the fat burning metabolism process.

When exercising the lungs adequately, the body is more oxygenated and metabolizes fat as a fuel source preference instead of breaking down mostly glycogen during anerobic activity (without oxygen).  Simply by learning to breathe correctly, you can burn more fat and better remove toxins from your body.  If you are limited to breathing exercises, you will benefit your body’s metabolism, lymph node, cardiopulmonary systems to include expedite the healing process.

Many of you also understand during exercise we experience aerobic vs. anaerobic metabolic and muscular benefits.  And through exercise, for example, like walking, our bodies burn more body fat because our task has shifted to an aerobic metabolism.  But if we go from a walk to a sprint, our body cannot get enough oxygen for long periods of time at this intensity and lactic acid buildup limits us in our exercise activity.  Anaerobic activity is good for those that need to push the body to build short burst and power/strength capacity.  Whereas aerobic activity is necessary to build upon muscular endurance, fat burning and body toning goals.

Below I provide deep breathing exercises that one can practice and apply to improve upon any fitness goal or ill-health, or rehabilitative challenge.  Simply apply the daily breathing technique below for improved health benefits.  You will experience anxiety-stress relief, reduced aches and pains, have more energy, cardiopulmonary capacity improvements.  At a minimum, you’ll improve your circulatory properties (blood pressure and heart rate), improve posture, mood, and sleep, also feel better about yourself and maybe notice some weight loss.

Regardless of your breathing technique, you’ll note it is work, because breathing correctly is exercise.  This is because during exercise you have to consciously and willfully exercise the lungs and chest cavity muscles to capacity.  And breathing exercises should be preformed many times daily to break the habit of shallow breathing.

An easy breathing exercise that is relaxing to practice whether sitting, or just before sleep, or walking:  While sitting up straight without arching your back, inhale deeply [imagine filling your lungs from the bottom up].  Hold for a count of six and then release slowly for the same count.  During the exhalation, forcibly remove the excess residual air volume from your lungs.  This is easily accomplished by tightening the abdominal area through the exhalation activity.  During the inhalation phase don’t rush it [otherwise you’ll feel like your hyperventilating].  Simply inhale through the nose with the mouth closed.  Hold the inflated lungs for 6 counts and then release for 6 counts through mouth.

Also, through simple breathing techniques posture is important.  Insure you don’t lean forward and reduce the chest cavity area during this exercise.  If you do this, you’re not exercising your circulatory-lung systems to its full capacity.  Remember to repeat this as many times throughout the day as possible.  Eventually, your involuntary system will maintain a deeper breathing pattern during sleep and during the day.  Your body will then begin to become more oxygenated throughout a 24 hour window.

And just before sleep, as you lay on your bed, remove the pillow; lay flat and go through 8-10 deep breathing 6 counts of full inhalation and exhalation.  This is very relaxing and good for your mind and body which will greatly aid in your ability to fall asleep.

Deep breathing is also good to practice before a big interview, or public speaking engagement as well.  It wakes the mind, lungs and posture for better focus and vocal capacity while calming the nerves.

Remember, it’s easy to get lazy at breathing.  When we were younger our bodies were more active during the day and our breathing was more active during sleep.  Our young active metabolisms craved the oxygen enriched environment and the involuntary act of breathing during sleep was increased.

However, for many of us as we age, our activity levels decrease and we develop poor postural habits.  When these two things occur the act of shallow breathing is the result.   But through daily aerobic activity and/or combined with daily breathing exercises one can reverse shallow breathing and reap many longevity health benefits for the mind, body and spirit.

What is Pranic Healing and Does it Work?

23 07 2010

For thousands of years mankind was blind to electricity, light wave spectrum, etc. Now it is measured, detected all around us and used by consumers to light their home, microwave meals and guide lazar guided missiles.  Ignorance in reality often occurs when science does not understand, or can’t provide quantified data.  How long will it take science to unlock the secrets of the universe?  My point here, if your waiting on science to cure what ails you, I highly recommend you consider pranic self healing therapy while working parallel with Western medicine practices to increase your chances of accelerating the natural healing processes if you’ve exhausted all avenues in healing what ails you or a loved one.

I’ve watched a couple of video’s on this practice.  Simply go to your search engine, type in Pranic Healing and watch these miraculous healing videos.  The practicing healing physicians and group healer workshops assist and teach patients how to heal themselves and others.   Various cultures use Prana to heal but have different names for life energy healing.  So when you do your search, check under Greek healing (called pneuma); Polynesian healing (mana); Hebrew healing (ruah “breath of energy”).

Who can use and apply pranic healing?  Anyone of average intelligence and an open mind can learn pranic healing which is said to be easier than learning to drive a car.
