Aspartame the Silent Killer

22 02 2015

MirrorAthlete® Original Publication: Mar 25, 2008, Updated:  Feb 22, 2015

Many years back, I posted Dr. H. J. Roberts, Aspartame and Shocking Health Risks, featured in MirrorAthlete’s March 08 newsletter.

I’ve now updated this important topic to a group of new subscribers and consumers. Which include Victoria Inness-Brown’s famous experiment that exposed the truth about Monsanto the manufacture of Aspartame and its harmful effects on human health. Aspartame a substitute sweetener is alive and well and its addictive qualities are now hidden within approximately another thousand food products then when I first posted this information in 2008.

IMG_20130405_174743

While the chemical alone has the potential to make you fall ill with “who knows what,” I believe as scientific evidence showed us during the seventies, nothing has changed except the number of people who’ve become obese and those who now have diabetes disease.  There appears to be a strong correlation between this disease and Aspartames addictive flavor and weight gaining properties.  And this chemical sweetener appears to be a major contributor to an increasing childhood obesity epidemic.  Other illness and disease may be related to Aspartame, but epidemiological and controlled studies are still controversial and inconclusive for various subjective and objective reasoning as you’ll soon learn.

Aspartame History Matters,

“In 1975 the FDA came to the conclusion that aspartame should not be allowed on the market. They requested that further studies be conducted. The FDA’s next move was to set up a public board of inquiry composed of outside experts to investigate the safety of aspartame, and in 1980 that board unanimously rejected aspartame’s request for approval. Another internal FDA panel convened in 1980 also rejected aspartame for approval.  If you count the Bressler Report compiled after 1977, FDA scientist’s uncovered fraud and manipulation so wrought with concerns they forwarded the files to the Chicago U.S. Attorney’s office for prosecution [Mercola, 2015].”

So this was 4 strikes against Monsanto of the times prior to FDA approval. But this didn’t detour Monsanto from getting their product approved to market. Eventually deep pockets prevailed and the FDA approved the chemical sweetener to market. The controversy and untold truths still continue today and the health concerns connected to the Aspartame have only grown. [Refer to www.mercola.com].  Yes the reality is we’re living in a grand consumer experiment.  Where there is no consequence to its creators and/or trustees who’ve unleased a consumer food chemical whose global effects on human health continue to be realized.

Within Dr. Roberts talking points back in March 08, I learned key consumer talking points I didn’t take lightly then, nor should you now.

  1. Aspartame is profitable. For example Maryland-based biotech company Genex Corp., went from reporting $14.3m in 1985 revenues to $2.8m in 1986 after they lost their aspartame business.”
  2. Aspartame was initially listed by the Pentagon as a biochemical warfare   agent. How does a consumer make sense out of this?
  3. Chemical changes occur within Aspartame sodas when stored in warm temperatures. Thereafter chemical properties are transformed into a chemical poison and toxins and bad for our health.
  4. Aspartame is a common sugar substitute in our food chain keeping us overweight and causing diabetes.  Aspartame is extremely bad for those now diagnosed with diabetes.
  5. There is a direct correlation between children with ADD and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and childhood obesity.
  6. Monsanto’s patent on Aspartame has expired, now there are over 6,000 products on the shelves [~5000 known in 2008] containing aspartame.  It is also marketed as NutraSweet, Equal and Spoonful.  And who knows exactly how many other brands or under how many food labels.
  7. Uninformed parents are unknowingly poisoning their children and themselves through easy bake, baked snacks or prepared or processed deserts, soda, ice cream, candy treats, weight loss and dietary foods, etc.
  8. The American Diabetes and Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians know about these health risk connections. While the U.S. FDA and many medical doctors endorse Aspartame as completely safe for human consumption!
  9. Children are specifically at risk and susceptible to Aspartame poisoning because of their thin “undeveloped” blood brain barrier.  This chemical effect on this barrier lowers its resistance to toxins absorbed by the body and increases the potential of neural cell death.

Aspartames chemical breakdown of this brain barrier could leave one susceptible to many types of disease.  For example, Multiple Sclerosis, hormonal problems, Alzheimer’s and dementia, ALS [also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease], hearing loss, Parkinson’s disease, brain lesions, memory loss, epilepsy, neuroendocrine disorders, etc.  The list of potential disease and ill-health problems are too numerous to list.  However, it should be noted if you have symptoms of any of the aforementioned diseases, in some cases once consumption of Aspartame products is stopped the symptoms clear up. [Refer to: http://www.mercola.com, Aspartame: Is This FDA-Approved Sweetener Causing Brain Damage?].

This is why Victoria Inness-Brown’s experiment proved on April 2011 that Aspartame is something all consumers should be educated on. This experiment truly challenged Monsanto and FDA to defend its position that Aspartame is a safe food chemical sweetener.

Summarizing Victoria Inness-Brown’s experiment:  Her family was addicted to diet sodas… “Concerned aspartame would one day lead to illness or disease, she performed an aspartame experiment.  Starting with 108 rats for 2 years and 8 months. “As for dose, she gave the rats a daily dose of NutraSweet comparable to 14 cans of diet soda per day for the females, and 13 cans for the males.” [http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/04/09/victoria-innessbrowns-aspartame-experiment.aspx#!]

Victoria ensured the doses per rat weight was adjusted, using under Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI), set by the FDA and considered safe for human consumption.  However, even after safe adjusted dosage distribution fed daily throughout this time, thirty seven percent of the female rats developed tumors, some of massive size.

“One 12 oz. diet soda contains about 180mg of aspartame/15mg per oz, which equals approximately 4.5 packets of NutraSweet.”  The propaganda industry-machine tells consumers the ADI, set by the FDA equates to about 20, 12oz-diet soda for adults, or 6 for children is safe and acceptable.  If the rats get sick consuming far under ADI, why wouldn’t we?”

The insanity of it all, aspartame was once undeniably opposed by the FDA for approval to marketplace.  And where its chemical composition has not changed since the 80’s and continues to be claimed a safe food additive and recommended by many doctors as a safe sweetener substitute.

IMG_20130405_174805

Our Consumer Recommendation:  Do not consume aspartame, or products marketed under the following brands:  NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, Equal-Measure and Canderel.  Aspartame can be found in more than “now 6,000 products” including, but not limited to:  Diet sodas, juice drinks, flavored waters, chewing gum, table-top sweeteners, diet and diabetic foods, breakfast cereals, such as Fiber One, fiber supplements, such as orange flavored Metamucil, jams, and other sweets.

Be sure to read your food labels to ensure you’re not consuming this dangerous chemical.  Only purchase foods sweetened with natural sugars. If the label does not mention Aspartame, just keep this in mind… If it says artificial, substitute or other sweeteners, chance are its Aspartame or some other generic or similar manmade chemical sweetener.

I try to only consume products with sugar cane, or natural fruits, or one of the 3 major and naturally occurring sugars: lactose, fructose or maltose.  If you’re diabetic or allergic to any foods, or currently have disease, there may be health implications of consuming too many natural sugars as well.  Always seek dietary and medical advice from your doctor when any ill-health symptoms occur.

Get Skinny by Activating Addictive Body Chemicals

11 11 2014
IMG_0277

Any aerobic endurance activity will release addictive body chemicals that benefit health and wellbeing

One way to increase the odds of longevity, good health and wellness is through daily physical activities that stimulate the body’s natural release of addictive feel good chemicals.

Of course eating a balanced diet is very important to sustain good health, body weight and wellness.  But through daily exercise activities the metabolisms effect on will power and motivation to continue it increases everyday you stay the fitness course.

What chemicals are stimulated through exercise and how do they help us sustain the daily activity habit?

1) Adrenaline a neurotransmitter and hormone produced by the adrenalin gland just above the kidneys, also known as norepinephrine and epinephrine (provides attention focus in brain).  Together these chemicals activate your fight or flight stimulation designed to get the body out of a stressful situation, or survive an injury scenario.  It acts as a natural pain killer, boosts oxygen and glucose fuel to brain, muscles and suppresses depression.  2)   Dopamine is produced and synthesized in the brain which boosts positive behavior, cognition, motor activity, motivation, sleep, mood, learning and attention.  3)  Serotonin is synthesized within the CNS (Central Nervous System).  This chemical is also found in many mushrooms, plants, fruits and vegetables.  Research shows Serotonin plays an important role in liver regeneration and induces cell division throughout the body (important for repair and healing of the body).  Serotonins role as a neurotransmitter of the brain is to modulate anger, mood, aggression, sleep, sexuality, appetite and metabolism.

How does one initially find the will power and motivation to exercise relative to lifestyle and fitness needs and stick to it?

I do realize exercise activities that work for some may not work for others.  But with a little more insight, maybe a daily workout concept can by applied on self that will resonate with you long-term. If you can commit to a low impact aerobics exercise program daily you will then begin to release the feel good chemicals to make exercise a joy as opposed to a burden and painful experience.

Continuous daily exercise triggers these feel good chemicals and will cause “for most” an addictive exercise habit within 1-2 weeks.  However, everyone differs slightly in metabolism, exercise interest, motivations, intensity and mode of exercise, etc.  For some the body chemicals release an instant craving for daily exercise.  Where for others it may take a little longer once daily exercise begins.  However these addictive cravings for daily exercise may be trumped by bad behavioral habits;  thereby challenging will power and the motivation to exercise daily.  And until these bad habits are changed, modified or stopped, the commitment to daily exercise is threatened.

To maximize the odds of achieving healthy  longevity and wellness 4 behavioral habits must be addressed. 1)  Stop substance abuse.  2)  Eat a balanced and nutritious diet.  3) Become addicted to your body’s natural producing chemicals through exercise.  4)  Remove yourself from unhealthy and stressful environments.

The increased exercise activities experienced by clients did not require a lot of will power, but did require some effort and discipline.  Hence a small amount of will power is required when you begin a daily walking program.

Find a motivator to increase your will power to get you moving.  For example, have a fitness goal in mind: weight loss, body tone, want to feel and look well, etc.  Then start daily exercise slowly by increasing intensity, duration and frequency when your body tells you its okay to do so.  In time your body will release more feel good chemicals, then you’ll become better conditioned as a daily practitioner of aerobic exercise.

The best New Year’s fitness resolution advice I could give you as I’ve done with so many past clients is to start a daily walking habit.  Walking is a low impact fat burning activity.  Many don’t understand the exercise science and benefits of a daily aerobic walking habit.  But I assure you, if you walk for at least 15 minutes a day, you’ll begin to release more of those feel good chemicals.  And in time, your walk pace and distances will increase, so will your muscle tone, metabolism and circulatory function and body fat weight will decrease and you’ll look and feel better.

If you’ve been sedentary for a long time, walking at first may seem uncomfortable and maybe feel unnatural.  But keep this in mind.  As hunters and gatherers are bodies were designed to move by walking.  Walking is a very natural thing for us to do.  And in a short period of time, if you walk daily you will become addicted to it.  From this point forward fitness levels increase and you’ll find yourself challenged and wanting to do other advanced activities you thought were no longer possible.

I’ve had some obese clients walk or ride a stationary bike for a year.  Thereafter participated in a competitive long distance walking, hiking, jogging and biking event, etc.  They never imagined themselves capable of doing anything like it.

Be excited about all the possibilities that lye in front of you and enjoy life to the fullest by maintaining a daily mobility exercise habit!   Now go get addicted to the natural feel good drugs produced by your own body and reap the wellness and health benefits!

Alleviate Pain Through Nutritional & Herbal Remedies

21 08 2009

For those of you seeking to alleviate pain through nutritional and herbal remedies there seem to be a significant benefit for those with pains and aches caused through degenerative and progressive pathogen illness and disease.  Certainly, it is well founded through scientific studies that healthy and nutrient strong foods (visit our health repository and read MAE articles on super foods) intake contributes greatly as a preventative measure against illness and disease that lead to and cause pain.  If illness and disease can be defeated before it ever gets the opportunity to become a pain disorder within the body then one has a good chance minimizing and managing normal aches and pain while aging.  Healthy cell development and maintenance of the body at the molecular level requires proper nutrients and is of great importance in keeping the body pain free and/or alleviating pain once a pain disorder is present.

In order to determine a nutritional or herbal remedy course of action that would work for you, you first must understand the concept of a customized pain management program.  My premise is “what remedies work for others may only work in part, whole or not at all for what is causing your particular pain disorder.”  That’s right, what nutrients and herbal remedies work for me in my pain management program may not work for you at all, or have insignificant pain alleviation benefits.  Within my chronicles “Mirror Athlete with Chronic Pain” located within the Chronicles Repository, I discuss customized pain management programs in detail and how you can begin to apply this knowledge to your particular “unique” pain program regardless of pain disorder.  You must learn to educate yourself in such matters in order to find natural cures, super food quality supplements and whole foods that will work for you providing a better quality of healthy life experience.  I’ve also written articles, “Man Made Foods Bad, Natural Foods Good,” which you can also find in the health repository.

Good nutrition is one of the “key” preventative means to a healthy mind and body in order to have a fighting chance at combating unhealthy cell mutations that cause pain.  In my opinion, stressed cells that cause “pain symptoms” should not be confused with long-term illness leading to “pain disease and disorders.”  This is because sick, or stressed cells that cause acute pain, may, or may not propagate other cells to become permanently damaged leading to chronic “long-term“pain disease.  The point is, don’t let the acute pain get out of hand to become a chronic pain disorder that will not go away.  One of the best ways to combat cell illness causing pain is to feed it God’s natural foods provided on this earth.  Note – When I refer to foods I’m also referring to herbs.

The premise that good nutrition and herbal remedies will stave off increased pain disease in all cases, or cure pain illness, regardless of medical situation is not all inclusive, but certainly can’t hurt for a hopeful health or pain alleviation outcome for a terminally ill patient.  For example, there are terminal pathological diseases, regardless of treatment will not abate the damage done to the internal immune, muscle, skeletal, nerve or organ systems, etc., within the body.  Even if a patient has terminal disease with significant pain a holistic customized pain management treatment approach appears to provide a better quality of life outcome than not implementing such a treatment.  When I refer to customized pain management treatment, I’m referring to treating the mind, body and soul of an individual.  The predominant healthy activity components of a pain management program include, but not limited to:  Nutritional-herbal, exercise, spiritual, physical therapeutic, alternative medicine, social and healthy activities.

You can live a better quality of life as opposed to a never ending treatment program that fills your life with inactivity, or doctor’s visits that only seem to appease the aggravating pain for moments in time.  You can also accept the never ending supply of pharmaceutical prescriptions to dull the aches and pains while battling frequent depression, weight gain and other illness symptoms as a result of medicated body rejection.  Or you can become proactive in your pain management program and expand your pain alleviation efforts by adding good nutrition and herbal remedies to the mix.  Also stop bad consumption habits, e.g., smoking, drinking, consuming enriched package-can foods, drinking diet sodas, to include high fat and other sugar enriched foods (read Aspartame the Silent Killer, MAE Health Repository).

Through much research, pain modality and alleviation experiences; I have treated almost every major muscular-skeletal articulation in my body.  I’ve learned to customize a pain program for myself where I believe anyone that applied my pain management principles would experience a better quality of living while significantly alleviating, or eliminating pain.  Although I’ve been successful at customizing my own pain management program, I cannot guarantee what works for me will work for you one hundred percent.  However, I can guarantee if you apply my principles you will be able to enjoy a better quality of life.  This is because I teach you how to use my 25 years of pain management experience and education to apply to your specific pain program using sound & tried principles!  Some of my techniques use healthy daily nutrition, supplements which include herbal remedies.  Of course, you should know by now proper nutrition is a key ingredient to alleviating pain.  As mentioned, the holistic pain management approach must address the whole being; mind, body and soul.  Proper nutrition and herbal remedies (natural cures and super foods) is a big component of the healing and healthy being maintenance program.

The cold hard truth, “You must learn how to become your own pain management advocate!”  But you don’t have to go it alone.  I can teach you how to do this.  The point here, if a doctor prescribes a specific treatment and you don’t receive a significant pain relief benefit and/or the treatment is impacting your mood… Search for alternative treatments to discuss common sense referrals if possible.  Find a course of pain alleviation that works well for you!  If the mind is depressed so will be the body.  Although your body may receive pain alleviation “at first” regardless of pain modality therapy, if you don’t consider incorporation of a sound nutrient program, your illness, or disease “most likely” will continue to degenerate and may accelerate the disease progression.  This is because the body and mind are complicatedly interlinked (psychosomatic).  Our Western medicine and insurance policies and procedures are so decentralized and complicated in terms of pain modality treatment and practice, it is no wonder chronic pain issues are so difficult for the patient to find resolve.   For example, does the patient advocate for the mind, body, or soul?  Or is the best course of pain alleviation treatment a combination of the entire being?  Do our Western medicine practices treat the whole being when dealing with pain management?  The answer is simple, No.

You must strive always to improve and make preventative and corrective pain management modifications especially as you age, or pain intolerances and depression occur.  A customized pain management program is “almost always” in a state of flux.  This means you must be proactive with the management of your pain program making modifications to daily activity based on pain tolerance and intolerance.  What I mean by this statement, you must develop a pain program that addresses all changing workloads, exercise, activity, nutritional & herbal requirements for your particular lifestyle while living with pain.  I address this work load pain prescription in detail, see (http://www.mirrorathlete.com/ChroniclesRepos.html ) within “Mirror Athlete chronicles and mentioned within many articles and home site (http://www.mirrorathlete.com/HealthRepository.html).

It’s what you don’t know that creates much more pain and depression than is necessary to experience.  I started out by saying that there are nutritional and herbal remedies that will be of benefit for your pain alleviation.  I’ve also made some presumptions for you.  Such as, with the correct natural super food and herbal remedies it is certainly possible to prevent illness and disease that would cause pain in a progressed state, slow down pain disease, or abate the pain pathology.  It is certainly possible to reverse or mitigate disease and illness through applicable super food and herbal consumption as case studies have been verified throughout the medical community.  Use any search engine on the Internet and type in Natural Cures, or Supplements and/or Herbal pain cures, etc.  I cannot possibly list all the combinations of potential cures for all ailments.  Only that you should highly consider implementing after researching a nutritional super food, or herbal remedy that may help your pain disorder situation if you have not done so.

There are a lot of personal testimonials, medical controlled studies that show positive results by those that have incorporated these super foods and herbs into their diet while consulting their medical providers.  Primary care physicians that don’t subscribe to natural cure herbs or foods may only provide you pharmaceutical prescriptions.  Pharmaceuticals are man-made and not necessarily in your bodies best interest in all cases.  If in doubt as what to do, pharmaceuticals, or natural cures decision…  Have discussions with your medical providers about taking both herbal and prescription medications simultaneously.   In many cases, supplementation of super food and herbs with pharmaceuticals does not create, or complicate pain, or health conditions.  Instead, pain patients state dramatic pain alleviation results where prescription use declined, or were no longer necessary.

It is scientifically proven your body requires specific nutrients to maintain optimum health.  Imagine if you could find a pain treatment that cures what ails you, to include remove your pain regardless of pathology!   Well folks, it is possible and it happens every day.  Some like to refer to terminal disease remission as a miracle, because in most cases, complete chronic pain abatement in my opinion “is a miracle regardless of disease.”  One must never rule out the soul’s spiritual positive power of healing.  To do so would be a grave mistake in the pain healing and terminal illness remission process.  Without necessary nutrients the body begins a degradation phase prematurely regardless of age!  Think of your body like a car engine.  Without a good air, or oil filters (body equivalent – kidneys, liver, lungs) one might experience tenderness, irritability, pain irregularity in the liver, kidneys, intestines, stomach, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, skin discoloration, etc., due to poor eating habits where toxin builds up in the body.  Through time, without consideration to toxic food consumption the body becomes less efficient at removing the toxins.

The car experiences poor performance, iritic operations and poor start, or out of tune characteristic when oil, gas and air filters are not maintained making it more difficult to remove pollutants from the car engine.  The engine parts like the body begins to experience degradation when organs begin to fail due to toxic consumption habits and improper preventative health practices.  Like the body’s internal organs, the car’s engine components eventually break down due to poor fluid filtration characteristics, air and fuel quality circulation, etc., causing erratic operation.  This breakdown uncorrected within the body creates illness and disease, hence pain!  Your car may still run for many years.  But unlike the car you feel pain and discomfort.  The cost of car repairs at some point to keep the vehicle on the road soon outweighs the benefits of corrective maintenance costs and you eventually replace the car.  Since our body is not a car, we simply cannot replace or remove parts in most cases to alleviate the pain and make the body whole!

It is for this reason; you must look to incorporate proper nutrition and possibly herbal remedies into your diet!  At the molecular level regardless of pain disease, or illness one must understand the benefits of a holistic pain management approach while customizing a pain management program.  If your expectation is to reduce pain through a customized pain management program, you also need to consider the body’s molecular nutrient requirement!   Nutrition, herbal remedies and exercise should be incorporated if possible within a pain management program to have optimal chances at cell repair, or win a fight against any illness or disease!  You may also avoid going under the knife and possibly creating a worse pain, illness, or disease scenario while incorporating such practices within your pain management program.  Surgery should be your last recourse!

10 Step Basic Weight Loss Tips

22 01 2009

For me the following tips keep my body weight stable.  I could lose more weight through moderate calorie reduction or increased activities.  I choose not to.  Instead, I’ve set my weight where I’m comfortable and wake up every day energized and excited about my daily activities and never worry about my food choices.

“Lose weight and/or manage your weight after you’ve lost the fat”

1)    Find a daily activity that increases your metabolism 15-60minutes a day that you can get excited about and have fun.  Walking works best for me.  Think of other interests and mix it up, e.g., biking, hiking, camping, fishing, shopping, walk the dog, dance, yoga, exercise class, swimming, fitness center, home aerobic exercise equipment purchase, etc.  Any activity that increases heart rate will benefit your weight management program and is essential to good health.  Visit our home site health repository and read “Weight Management and Super Food Ideals, etc.”

2)   If you can’t get 3-4 fruits and vegetable servings per day because of cost or inconvenience, you must supplement your diet, or consume more concentrated quality super foods.  I use a high quality “natural” supplement daily with super food ingredients to boost metabolism, weight management and increased antioxidant protection for healthier longer living.  Visit my home site health repository to read our article, “Why we Need Super Foods.”

3)   Fad Diets – Stay away from any diet plan that restricts your food groups, such as carbohydrate, protein or high fat diet only.  These types of diets to include pharmaceuticals to achieve quick weight loss results will only harm your body’s metabolism.  Eventually these types of diets add on more weight with increased health risks.  Go to my home site within the health repository and read “Diet Pills, What’s The Deal?”

4)   Eat sensible meals.  I eat pretty much what I want to including snacks and other items I know are not in my best interest.  However, I love certain foods just like you.  The key here is to know when to stop.  Moderation and balance of food choice selection is important.  In order to eat sensible meals without going overboard, you must learn to incorporate healthy snacks in-between eating the main meals.  You will actually eat less for lunch and dinner if you do this because you won’t be as hungry.  Make sure you eat breakfast “This is the most important meal of the day.”  Your metabolisms health and stable weight management program requires this discipline.

5)    Don’t eat after 7:30pm.  Your metabolism slows down too much after this time.  If you feel hungry after this point, build an addiction around oranges, grapes, apples or fiber drink-bar in the evening.  You will become addicted to them… I guarantee you will not crave other deserts after about a week.  This is not to say you can’t have cake, pie, ice cream… You just don’t want to eat these things after 7:30pm and a day-to-day basis.

6)   Give up alcohol – Alcohol is responsible for much weight gain, weight loss failures and known alcohol induced illnesses that can create chronic body conditions.  If you can’t quit consuming beverages, or don’t want to, consider red wine (1-2 8oz glasses, proven health benefits).  Do not consume more than 2 drinks on any one day if you must drink alcohol.  Visit our home site health repository and read “Alcohol Consumption.”

7)    Drink water in the evening – Always have a glass of water at your side in the evening.  A lot of hunger feelings are not because your body requires more food.  Your brain really is telling your stomach you need more water but you perceive it as food.  This is because food has water in it where the brain signals the body to eat more for hydration purposes if you don’t drink enough water!  That can add up to a lot of calories and ultimately body weight!

8)   If going to a social function always ensure you eat a small meal not less than 2 hours before the main meal, especially when you know there will be a lot of rich foods served.  You will not be as hungry and you will indulge less because you will not be as hungry.  Visit our home site health repository and read “Holiday Weight Management.”

9)   Try to only eat fast foods once a week if you must do so.  There are so many chemical additives and preservatives in these foods.  These chemicals can make you ill, cause chronic health problems e.g., diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels, etc.   I don’t tell you to give up these foods; I only suggest you look for more organic alternatives.  Visit our home site health repository and read “Restaurant Foods Healthy?  Or any of our articles written on Super Foods for weight management and antioxidant boost.”

10.)   Give up diet sodas and deserts that contain aspartame, splendid, spoonful, etc.  Aspartame as a sugar replacement goes by many brand names.  Read my health article on “Aspartame the Silent Killer” located at our main site health repository.  Diet soda has the opposite effect on your body weight.  The aspartame industry is responsible for poisoning our families and creating obesity within our children at an alarming rate.

Although weight loss is not exactly simple, weight maintenance once the desired weight is achieved only requires modest will power and discipline.  If you want to lose weight, I recommend you apply all my principles above.  Once you achieve your desired body weight goal, then you only need to maintain the weight by using in variations from the list above that works best for you.

New Year’s Resolution, “Activate Addictive Healthy Chemicals”

22 01 2009

The secret to living a long healthy life is to learn how to apply positive healthy activities to your lifestyle in order to generate the body’s natural release of these addictive healthy chemicals.   Of course eating a healthy diet is very important to your health.  Nutrition is covered in many other articles I write so this will not be the focus here.  Instead, I will focus on the addictive chemicals produced by the body to further stimulate will power, whereby activity is a “Major” component to healthier happier living and living longer!

You’re body produces natural and addictive chemicals that are optimally activated during exercise, or during increased activity:   1) Adrenaline a neurotransmitter and hormone produced by the adrenalin gland just above the kidneys, also known as norepinephrine and epinephrine (provides attention focus in brain).

How does one find the will power to activate the body’s natural addictive health hormone chemicals and stick to a healthy activity lifestyle?  I’ve been managing chronic pain and bodyweight challenges for the last 10 years and enjoy a quality of life that would not be possible without daily activity.  I do realize what works for me may not work for you.  But with a little more insight provided to you through my example, maybe I’ll provide a plan that will resonate where other fitness activity plans have failed.

As I stated at the beginning of this article, the secret to a healthy life plan is to develop an addictive healthy life program where natural release of feel good chemicals will make exercise and/or activity a joy instead of a burden.  Increased activity through behavioral change will trigger your addictive chemical release within 1-4 weeks, thereby increasing your will power to stick with a fitness program.  This is because each one of us has a different metabolism that may, or may not respond to activity hormone stimulation immediately, thereby challenging your will power until natural addiction occurs due to increased activity.  The requirement to maximize a healthy life program and live longer requires application of three behavioral change categories.  1)  Stop substance abuse.  2)  Eat a balanced and nutritious diet.  3) Become addicted to your body’s natural producing chemicals through exercise.  The increased activity in my life does not require a lot of will power, but does require effort; hence a small amount of will power is required.  By finding a motivator to get you moving and by slowly increasing activity activates powerful feel good and healthy chemicals.  Once you find an activity, or exercise you can start with, you can become addicted to a routine that makes you feel good on a daily basis and wanting more!  I will now provide an example of a healthy annual resolution plan I put into practice daily to improve my overall health, better quality of life, and the will power to positively motivate continuation of this process indefinitely.

Six years ago for example, my New Year’s Resolution was to begin a walking program.  This is because that was the year I collapsed a hip during military training.  Instead of nursing my injuries for months and beginning a “cautious” low activity lifestyle, I decided this was not the direction I wanted to take and was not in my best health interest.  Without increased blood circulation and activity, pain becomes greater due to the bodies inability to stay on the mend, weight increases and then you become susceptible to all types of health risks.  Five years ago my New Year’s Resolution was to further exercise my medical health benefits and visit my primary care physician getting referrals to specialists that would provide valuable insight, tests, consulting and therapy to further learn how I could improve my physical health situation while continuing my walking exercise program.  There are a lot of people out there suffering that have benefits where further referral work could be accessed and never used, this is a big mistake!  Take your health into your hands and do something about your illness or disease before it’s too late!

Four years ago I purchased a gym membership and stuck to an aerobics and stretch program after my first hip surgery and shoulder injuries.  This was a very tough year for me that pushed my physical limits in terms of sheer willpower not to be defeated mentally.  Three years ago my New Year’s resolution was to give up drinking alcohol (not that I consumed a lot of alcohol) and substitute an electrolyte drink, or regular soda once and awhile (not diet – Never Drink Diet – See my article on Aspartame the Silent Killer at the sites Health Repository).  Any alcohol with regard to my predicament was going to be a detriment to my health.  I also continued to participate in a daily walking, gym aerobic and stretch program.  Two years ago I resolved to plan and prepare for a total hip surgery on my other injured hip.  I also decided I would not have a scheduled shoulder surgery.  I instead would do the best I could to naturally rehabilitate my two shoulders through exercise therapy and nutritional supplementation (See our Wellness Company Wholesale products program).

Last year my New Year’s Resolution was to apply all the physical therapy resources at my disposal to rehabilitate myself after a total hip replacement.  This meant being consistent with my in-home therapy exercises, to include using crutches and cane while on the mend.  I continued to go to the gym for stretching activity and instead of walking, used crutches to make small distances each day while managing pain.  I also began a total supplemental pack loaded with natural supper food quality nutrients to my daily diet (see our Wellness Wholesale Company).  Although pain management is not discussed here (visit our Chronic Pain Center) if you have acute or chronic pain, use of pharmaceuticals and natural supplementation within a pain management program can be a positive-negative experience.  The trick to good pain management using pain killers and muscle relaxants during increased activity is “not” to become addicted to these substances while managing appropriate dosages, while minimizing further health risk!

Realize there is a health risk even with moderate use of pharmaceuticals.   If you become addicted to your prescriptions, get help from your health provider!  Always consult with your physician if you will be actively conditioning your body while on the mend and using pharmaceuticals.  This year my New Year’s resolution was to get back into a fitness center as my past years membership expired.  I just signed on to a fitness membership at the beginning of the year.  When in the fitness center I work various resistive weight, stretch techniques and aerobics equipment.  Almost everyday I ensure I walk at least 30 minutes and break to do stretch exercises.

An annual healthy life resolution plan has allowed me to manage weight, pain and while significantly improving life style on a daily basis.  Achieving longer-healthier living while aging is to tap all health knowledge information and apply it to your particular situation.  Find an addictive activity passion!  If you can do this, you can stay on the mend naturally. Be excited about your life while enjoying life to the fullest!  Keep your New Year’s Resolution focused on your health each year.  Healthy body, mind and soul success will be the result of your efforts.  Now go get addicted to the natural healthy drugs produced by your body and reap the enhanced will power, longer living and happier-healthy daily rewards!

New Year's Resolution, "Activate Addictive Healthy Chemicals"

Aspartame the Silent Killer?

25 03 2008

In our March 08 monthly health newsletter, “Looking at yourself.  Got Health?”  You read our editorial “Aspartame and Shocking Health Risks,” exposed by Dr. H. J. Roberts.”   If you would like to receive our free monthly health newsletter, visit www.mirrorathlete.com, enter your email address in the subscriber’s box and then you’ll be on our monthly distribution list.

Within the March08 newsletter we learned some key points:  1) Chemical changes within sodas containing Aspartame are poisoning our families.  2) Related symptoms stopped once the patient is off of diet sodas.  3) Aspartame is a common denominator in our diet making us sick!  4)  There is a significant weight gain connection!  5)  Aspartame is extremely bad for diabetics.  6)  There is a direct connection between children with ADD and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).  7)  Children are specifically at risk and susceptible to Aspartame poisoning.  8)  Monsanto’s patent on Aspartame has expired, now there are over 5,000 products on the shelves containing aspartame; marketed as NutraSweet, Equal and Spoonful.  Uninformed parents are unknowingly poisoning their loved ones.  The American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians know about this connection, also endorsed by the U.S. FDA!  “It’s all about the money and corporate greed!”

There is much information to further substantiate this outrageous chemical food additive practice, but we only have room to scratch the surface.  E.g., Victoria Inness-Brown’s family was addicted to diet sodas… “Concerned aspartame would one day lead to her family’s illness or even early death, she performed an aspartame experiment.  Starting with 108 rats for 2 years and 8 months, daily, she feed a controlled group of rats two-thirds the aspartame contained in an 8-oz diet soda.  Results:  Thirty seven percent of the female rats developed tumors, some of massive size.  Folks this a study where doses per rat weight is adjusted, using under Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI), set by the FDA! “The fact that aspartame is endorsed by the U.S. FDA as a safe product, and is recommended by many doctors as a sweet alternative in lieu of sugar is enough to make you go mad.”  Also, consider these facts, 1) “Does it make sense that what was once listed by the Pentagon as a biochemical warfare agent is now an integral part of your modern diet?” 2)  “Aspartame is profitable… E.g., Maryland-based biotech company Genex Corp., went from reporting $14.3m in 1985 revenues to $2.8m in 1986 after they lost their aspartame business.”  3)  “One 12 oz diet soda contains about 180mg of aspartame/15mg per oz, which equals approximately 4.5 packets of NutraSweet.”  4) The propaganda industry-machine tells consumers the ADI, set by the FDA equates to about 20, 12oz-diet soda for adults, or 6 for children is safe and acceptable (www.mercola.com).”    If the rats get sick consuming far under ADI, why wouldn’t we?”  Friends, it’s simple, “It’s all about the money!”

Recommendations:  Do not consume aspartame, or products marketed under the following brands:  NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, Equal-Measure and Canderel. Aspartame can be found in more than 5,000 products including, but not limited to:  Diet sodas, juice drinks, flavored waters, chewing gum, table-top sweeteners, diet and diabetic foods, breakfast cereals, such as Fiber One, fiber supplements, such as orange flavored Metamucil, jams, and sweets.
