Healthy longevity is important especially if we hope to enjoy retirement with our loved ones.

Updated:  24 Aug 2018

I’ve known for years the chemicals in our consumer marketplace and environment has a direct correlation with disease and rising mortality rates. Through epidemiological, disease prevention and mortality rate studies and World Health Organization reports, etc., a direct connection with consumer products is found to have an effect on health and longevity. And that connection is the Westernized cultures who produce the pathological causing pollutant and chemical contaminants that attack cellular integrity by their oxidant agents.

Through the advancements of modern medicine a decline in mortality rates occurred – benefiting an increase in average lifespan during the early-mid-20th century. However the data today shows a reverse in trend. The marketplace in the later 20th and early 21st century changed by introducing thousands of toxic chemical contaminants into the food chain, water and air we breathe.

The global data shows a direct correlation to man’s manipulation of our food chain for sake of profit. As a result cancer is on the rise and so is every other major medical problem including diabetes, arthritis, heart, circulatory and autoimmune disease to name a few. At this rate our children and their children will live shorter lifespans than previous generations and suffer unnecessary pain and costs that need not be.

Many of the statistical bullet points below were relative in 2007 when this article was first published. And just as relative and concerning today… mortality rates and disease is not decreasing. And occurring in an advanced culture where modern medicine should be reducing these things – It’s not.

Previous and Updated Consumer Statistical Facts,

It is a fact, cancer mortality rates throughout the globe have increased over the last decade. “7.6 million People died of cancer in the world during 2007.  13% of all deaths are due to cancer (American Cancer Society).”

Since then, cancer cases have risen globally. Unfortunately “Cancer is among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with approximately 14 million new cases and 8.2 million cancer related deaths in 2012 [World Health Organization, 2015] and (Woodard, 2015).”

From 1965 to 1982 over 4 million distinct chemical compounds were formulated by corporations.  And at least 250,000 new formulations created annually since then.

Approximately 6,000 chemicals are added to our foods (Woodard 2015). And the FDA has no knowledge of 1000 of them or effect on cellular health. And fewer than half the other 4000 chemicals have not been tested by the FDA (Marler 2013).

700 chemicals have been found in drinking water.

Over 500 chemicals can be found under kitchen sinks or laundry rooms in American homes.

Over 800 neurotoxin chemical compounds are used in cosmetic-perfume industries.

How many store bought products are chemically influenced by man?

How many store bought products are chemically influenced by man?

Seventy percent of our daily calories now consist of processed foods high in trans-fat, sugar, salt, other strange chemical preservative and processing additives, etc., that lack organic nutrients.

“But if we care about people dying before their lives are really over or having to endure preventable suffering, and our neighbors racking up huge medical costs that we all share, then that space on our plates for processed food shouldn’t be anywhere near 70 percent. Perhaps closer to 20 or 30 percent. It’s only then that we can call our food supply truly safe (Marler 2013).”

310,000 Americans go to early graves due to processed food diets that cause heart and diabetes disease, etc., including cancer.

For example, food preservative BHA is a known carcinogen found in many processed foods we consume daily: McDonald’s sausages, an ingredient found in Gatorade, Tang, DiGiorno Pepperoni Pizza, breakfast steak, bread making, etc., (Marler 2013).

3000 annual deaths and 130,000 food borne illness are reported by hospitals.

Bottled water, how pure is it? Studies show not much better than local drinking water.

There’s a lot of manmade toxic chemicals in the air we breathe, water we drink from plastic containers and foods we eat.

Many health conscientious consumers don’t consider the cosmetic and hygiene products they use every day.

To provide awareness to common toxic home care products with known carcinogens, to identify them in your house you can perform a home toxic product identification challenge. Then you decide if you want to keep the products or replace them with an organic home cleaning, laundry and hygienic product line. When you remove known toxic chemicals from your home, less stress is put on the autoimmune system which mitigates and relieves ill-health conditions.

Look no further than your kitchen cleaning, or bathroom hygiene cabinets. Simply select a shampoo, toothpaste or common home cleaning product and look for 1 or all 3 toxic ingredients listed below. The 3 chemical and toxic ingredients I chose out of hundreds of unsafe chemicals consumers unknowingly consume daily: Propylene Glycol, SLS (sodium laurylsulfate) and DEA (Diethanolamine).

Replace toxic hygienic product with green products to reduce health risk.

Below I’ve provided a short descriptor of each disease causing chemical ingredient found within common home use consumer products. Keep in mind, I’ve only listed 3 absorbed through the skin, inhaled or ingested. Also I’ve barely scratched the surface or impressed upon the fact, there’s thousands of chemicals and toxins we take in daily found in our air, water and food.

Propylene Glycol – What’s Anti-Freeze doing in our shampoos, deodorants, cosmetics, lotions, toothpastes and pet food, etc.?  Yes the main ingredient is Anti-freeze, Propylene Glycol.  “Topical application to injured skin or intravenous administration has sometimes been associated with lactic acidosis, Comas, Seizures & Renal Failure.  Linked to: Central Nervous System Effects, Metabolic Effects & Poisoning (Walker 2015).”

SLS (sodium laurylsulfate) – What are concrete floor cleaner, engine degreaser and car wash detergents doing in hundreds of other personal home care and cleaning products, such as bath & body products, etc.?  The main ingredient is SLS. “SLS (sodium laurylsulfate) acts as a detergent. Used in the laboratory as a membrane destabilizer & solubilizer of proteins and lipids, causing potential harm to skin and eyes. Young eyes may not develop properly if exposed to SLS because proteins are denatured (Walker, 2015)”

DEA (Diethanolamine) – What is a known cause, or contributor to cancer, or of being potentially dangerous or hazardous to our health doing in shampoos, conditioners, bubble baths, lotions, cosmetics, soaps, laundry and dishwashing detergents?

The main ingredient within many bath and body and cosmetic products is DEA, a known cancer causing ingredient. The California Center for Environmental Health (CEH) performed independent testing of 98 personal care products and found “products testing high in DEA and Cocamide DEA used to thicken hair, ‘was listed a known carcinogen last year.” Many personal care products with DEA in them is manufactured and sold by many major retailer brands consumers know and trust. Just to name a few Colgate, Palmolive, Colomer and Paul Mitchell.

Major retailers known to sell, or have sold products with toxic chemical ingredients include: “Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Pharmaca and Kohl’s and a store brand children’s bubble bath from Kmart and a children’s shampoo/conditioner from Babies R Us were also found with cocamide DEA. Falsely labeled organic products from Organic by Africa’s Best also tested for high levels of the cancer-causing chemical (CEH previously won a legal settlement with this company requiring it to end its use of phony organic labels) (Center for Environmental Health 2013).”

For a list of brands and retailers that sell DEA personal care products, click on CEH link below.

Still need more proof.  Check the back of your household cleaning, or hygiene product bottles. Pick an ingredient name you can’t pronounce or don’t understand its meaning. Type this name into an Internet search engine. You’ll see it is a manmade chemical product and it is not organic. I’m willing to bet you have at least 1 of 3 listed chemical ingredients in one or more of your favorite personal use and home cleaning products.  Most likely exposed daily to all 3 and other toxic chemicals too numerous list.

If you are using products with ingredients you can’t pronounce, or understand their origins, these almost always are manmade chemical ingredients.

Take advantage of seasonal farmers markets.

The best advice I can give you is to begin replacing all home cleaning and personal care products with “clean green home and hygiene products” and eat as fresh organic foods as possible. Also cut down on processed and convenience food consumption.

The chemicals we use to clean our homes and foods we consume are at war with our bodies.  And I’ve not even brought up the air we breathe and water we drink. To get more insight on these consumer topics of interest please click on the following MirrorAthlete article links: How Sick Buildings Effect Lives and Is Fluoride in Our City Water Needed or Safe.

It is more important than ever to remove the toxic household products and heavily processed foods from our plates. Consume as many fresh fruits and vegetables daily as possible. As a health insurance policy add a daily multi-vitamin and mineral supplement to provide an anti-oxidant boost to immune system. This will help shield cellular health by protecting it from free radical damage caused by product and environmental oxidant damage and environmental stress taken in daily.

Without preventative health measures in our Westernized culture the aging process will advance with insidious disease and shorten lifespans.

Pill Extends Life to 100 Years and Beyond

23 05 2018

Forever ageless like Face Rock, Bandon Beach, OR. Do you see the face?

Last Updated:  23 May 2018

A substance taken as a pill has been studied over the last decade now shows further promise of extending life well over the centurion mark.  Whereas the “average” life span could exceed 100 years of age.

“That would be something considering the average life span today is 79.”  This doesn’t seem so impossible to believe simply based on the fact the oldest living person recorded to date was Jeanne Calment who lived 122 years and 164 days .

Science has experimented with resveratrol concentrates in mice studies over the last decade where positive results show extended longevity, weight loss and decreased disease occurrences.  However to receive similar benefits in humans relative to the animal studies would require the consumption of 1000 glasses of red wine [resveratrol resides in wine] daily equivalent dose.  And no, “I don’t recommend consuming a lot of wine based on the study.”   However a high concentrate of resveratrol, or other phenol (plant) pill found in the marketplace may provide longevity benefits animal studies currently purport.

The questions than become 1) Do high resveratrol concentrate in supplement form exist?  2) Would it be safe to consume in high concentrate.  3)  Are those healthy-longevity results seen in animal studies relative to human metabolism and health?

“So what exactly is resveratrol?”

1-2 glasses of 6-8oz red wine per day is said to be heart health.

It’s the trace phenol substance found in the likes of grape skin, seeds and vine that is the healthy component after harvesting and processing of red grapes to wine. That’s why nutritionists and health experts agree red wine is heart healthy if not exceeding two 6-8oz glasses per day.  Alcohol volume is the health risk here.  Whereas the heart healthy phenol [resveratrol] found in red wines is present in low concentrate.

Science also tells us this particular phenol (plant) substance is known to defend against harmful bacteria and fungi pathogens.

The most abundant source of resveratrol comes from vitis vinifera, labrusca, and muscadine grape sources used to make red wines.  The highest concentrate source is from the skin of these grapes.  There is ~50-100 micrograms (millionth/gram)/red grape source and by volume ~.30 – 1.07 milligrams (thousandths/gm)/resveratrol in a 5oz glass of wine.

Resveratrol  is a secondary [stilbenoid] product which occurs naturally in a variety of plants (red grape, hops,  peanuts, Japanese Knotweed, melinjo fruit, mulberries, eucalyptus, spruce and lily).   The phenol substance from the grape stilbenoid falls under the classification of flavonoids.

3-4 fruits and vegetable servings per day are recommended to sustain optimal health.

Flavonoids are found in fruits and vegetables which provide anti-oxidant benefits.  High concentrate flavonoids also reside in seeds, nuts, green tea, buckwheat and pine bark.  The best sources of anti-oxidant flavonoids are found in onions, tea and apples and of course red wines.

It appears through scientific animal studies a high concentrate of phenol substance daily also has the potential to reduce risk against cardiovascular, diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, etc.

A 2006 study show mice served an over saturated fatty diet while taking 22mg resveratrol/kg of body weight/daily had a 30% lower risk of death as opposed to mice consuming the same high fat or restricted diet without concentrate.  “Here we show that resveratrol shifts the physiology of middle-aged mice on a high-calorie diet towards that of mice on a standard diet and significantly increases their survival [Wade/Baur, et al. 2006].  Disagreement of transferable health benefits to human metabolism continued to be met with skepticism by the scientific community on topic.

However the scientific and anti-aging community may finally be more in lock-step based on the latest genomic medicine research related to this resveratrol-based 2006 longevity study.

Closest thing I had to a mouse on file for visual impact.. but I think much cuter than a mouse.

As of early 2013, there were no published clinical trials for resveratrol animal efficiency studies based in genomic medicine with regard to human age related disease.

However on 7 March 2013,

– Efficiencies relative to reservatrol and longevity connection was recognized possible through a target group of encoded gene known as a sirtuin.  Or [SIRT1] appears to encode a member of the family of proteins that establish the human efficiency-benefit connection.   To this date, “the science of aging has increasingly focused on sirtuins, a group of genes that are believed to protect many organisms, including mammals, against diseases of aging.”

Mounting evidence has demonstrated that resveratrol, a compound found in the skin of grapes as well as in peanuts and berries, increases the activity of a specific sirtuin, SIRT1, that protects the body from diseases by revving up the mitochondria, a kind of cellular battery that slowly runs down as we age. By recharging the batteries, SIRT1 can have profound effects on health [Cameron 2013].

This is good news for the Anti-aging, medical and scientific community if these connections can be scientifically proven for human efficiency benefit.  But what is a safe resveratrol concentrate dose today until SIRT1 trials can provide further data relative to anti-aging and longevity?

Body weight, activities, environmental stress and overall lifestyle differ with each one of us. Nutritional requirements vary with each person.

In 2006, an average daily concentrate was determined based on animal studies relative to a 175lb person.  It would actually take 400mg resveratrol/kg of body weight/daily or 30,000mg/day to achieve the same efficiency claims made in the mouse studies using 22mg resveratrol/kg of mouse weight/daily.

This difference in dose adjustment for the human metabolism is necessary because ours is much slower than a mouse.  Therefore the studies using 22mg resveratrol/kg of mouse weight/daily was not relevant to human efficiency benefits.

Here’s the adjustment dose difference from those trials. Instead of 22mg resveratrol/kg of mouse weight/day, the subject (mouse) would have to be fed a diet concentrate equivalent of 30,000mg’s resveratrol/kg body weight/daily for the study to be relevant for a 175lb person!  And If a person weighing 175lbs consumed ~400mg resveratrol/kg of human weight/daily it would “likely” present a toxicity problem [Wade/Baur, et al. 2006].

There have been no studies on mice using anywhere near a 30,000mg’s resveratrol/daily concentrate equivalent.  But past studies on mice using concentrates as high as 300 mg resveratrol/kg of mouse weight/daily for up to 4 weeks had no adverse effect.  However that’s not even close to the adjusted daily dosage for human efficiency studies.   To understand the efficiencies on humans a metabolic dosage and/or sirtuins [group of genes] must be an adjusted dose on mice relative to human weight and metabolism.

Maybe the Pacific NW Nutria would be willing to volunteer in one of the animal studies.

It will be interesting to see further animal studies that closely resemble the 30,000mg resveratrol human dose equivalent and what efficiencies/inefficiencies will be revealed in coordination with genetically coded research on humans.

Currently moderate resveratrol dosed supplements can be purchased in the marketplace.  “Those who choose to consume 20 mg of resveratrol a day can take comfort in the BioMarker research showing that this potency exerted impressive changes in critically important genes involved in various aging processes and degenerative diseases.”  However this statement is likely backed by the anti-aging research and marketers and not accepted by the scientific community until efficiency tests are proven in a controlled lab environment.

“Those who choose to consume higher doses of resveratrol can look at the media-reported studies that also showed very impressive results. The good news for consumers is that they can obtain standardized resveratrol and other grape constituents in 20 mg and 100 mg capsules, at a very moderate cost  [Life Extension 2007].”

Do your own research with longevity and anti-aging products. – the marketplace makes claims with little proof of benefits compared to research from the scientific community.

My advisement to the consumer, “Beware!  Science truly has not proven the potential side effects and health risks when consuming a high dosage resveratrol (phenol) type, or like supplemental-herb diet product(s).”

To this date the efficiencies seen in animal studies do not equate to similar human benefits.  If interested in taking resveratrol concentrate  – 20-100mg resveratrol concentrate appear safe.  However it is not clear whether or not a significant health or longevity benefit would result.

Investing in a HIGH phenol concentrate without scientific proof of efficiencies could be akin to throwing money down the drain.  The off-set… lower dosages may be of health benefit.

Recommendation:  There are two ways to make a consumer decision on topic:

Save your money on high concentrate phenol-herb supplements until science figures out an efficiency concentrate backed by the scientific community.

Taking a 20-100mg daily dose does not appear to present a health risk.  It seems more likely than not resveratrol supplements at these dosages would improve metabolic efficiencies as opposed to increase health risk.

The decision to supplement diet with resveratrol at this point in time appears more likely a health benefit than not.

This will help shield cellular health by protecting it from free radical damage caused by product and environmental oxidant damage and environmental stress taken in daily.

Without preventative health measures in our Westernized culture the aging process will advance and more of us will likely experience insidious disease and shortened lifespans.

Aspartame the Silent Killer

22 02 2015

MirrorAthlete® Original Publication: Mar 25, 2008, Updated:  Feb 22, 2015

Many years back, I posted Dr. H. J. Roberts, Aspartame and Shocking Health Risks, featured in MirrorAthlete’s March 08 newsletter.

I’ve now updated this important topic to a group of new subscribers and consumers. Which include Victoria Inness-Brown’s famous experiment that exposed the truth about Monsanto the manufacture of Aspartame and its harmful effects on human health. Aspartame a substitute sweetener is alive and well and its addictive qualities are now hidden within approximately another thousand food products then when I first posted this information in 2008.

IMG_20130405_174743

While the chemical alone has the potential to make you fall ill with “who knows what,” I believe as scientific evidence showed us during the seventies, nothing has changed except the number of people who’ve become obese and those who now have diabetes disease.  There appears to be a strong correlation between this disease and Aspartames addictive flavor and weight gaining properties.  And this chemical sweetener appears to be a major contributor to an increasing childhood obesity epidemic.  Other illness and disease may be related to Aspartame, but epidemiological and controlled studies are still controversial and inconclusive for various subjective and objective reasoning as you’ll soon learn.

Aspartame History Matters,

“In 1975 the FDA came to the conclusion that aspartame should not be allowed on the market. They requested that further studies be conducted. The FDA’s next move was to set up a public board of inquiry composed of outside experts to investigate the safety of aspartame, and in 1980 that board unanimously rejected aspartame’s request for approval. Another internal FDA panel convened in 1980 also rejected aspartame for approval.  If you count the Bressler Report compiled after 1977, FDA scientist’s uncovered fraud and manipulation so wrought with concerns they forwarded the files to the Chicago U.S. Attorney’s office for prosecution [Mercola, 2015].”

So this was 4 strikes against Monsanto of the times prior to FDA approval. But this didn’t detour Monsanto from getting their product approved to market. Eventually deep pockets prevailed and the FDA approved the chemical sweetener to market. The controversy and untold truths still continue today and the health concerns connected to the Aspartame have only grown. [Refer to www.mercola.com].  Yes the reality is we’re living in a grand consumer experiment.  Where there is no consequence to its creators and/or trustees who’ve unleased a consumer food chemical whose global effects on human health continue to be realized.

Within Dr. Roberts talking points back in March 08, I learned key consumer talking points I didn’t take lightly then, nor should you now.

  1. Aspartame is profitable. For example Maryland-based biotech company Genex Corp., went from reporting $14.3m in 1985 revenues to $2.8m in 1986 after they lost their aspartame business.”
  2. Aspartame was initially listed by the Pentagon as a biochemical warfare   agent. How does a consumer make sense out of this?
  3. Chemical changes occur within Aspartame sodas when stored in warm temperatures. Thereafter chemical properties are transformed into a chemical poison and toxins and bad for our health.
  4. Aspartame is a common sugar substitute in our food chain keeping us overweight and causing diabetes.  Aspartame is extremely bad for those now diagnosed with diabetes.
  5. There is a direct correlation between children with ADD and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and childhood obesity.
  6. Monsanto’s patent on Aspartame has expired, now there are over 6,000 products on the shelves [~5000 known in 2008] containing aspartame.  It is also marketed as NutraSweet, Equal and Spoonful.  And who knows exactly how many other brands or under how many food labels.
  7. Uninformed parents are unknowingly poisoning their children and themselves through easy bake, baked snacks or prepared or processed deserts, soda, ice cream, candy treats, weight loss and dietary foods, etc.
  8. The American Diabetes and Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians know about these health risk connections. While the U.S. FDA and many medical doctors endorse Aspartame as completely safe for human consumption!
  9. Children are specifically at risk and susceptible to Aspartame poisoning because of their thin “undeveloped” blood brain barrier.  This chemical effect on this barrier lowers its resistance to toxins absorbed by the body and increases the potential of neural cell death.

Aspartames chemical breakdown of this brain barrier could leave one susceptible to many types of disease.  For example, Multiple Sclerosis, hormonal problems, Alzheimer’s and dementia, ALS [also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease], hearing loss, Parkinson’s disease, brain lesions, memory loss, epilepsy, neuroendocrine disorders, etc.  The list of potential disease and ill-health problems are too numerous to list.  However, it should be noted if you have symptoms of any of the aforementioned diseases, in some cases once consumption of Aspartame products is stopped the symptoms clear up. [Refer to: http://www.mercola.com, Aspartame: Is This FDA-Approved Sweetener Causing Brain Damage?].

This is why Victoria Inness-Brown’s experiment proved on April 2011 that Aspartame is something all consumers should be educated on. This experiment truly challenged Monsanto and FDA to defend its position that Aspartame is a safe food chemical sweetener.

Summarizing Victoria Inness-Brown’s experiment:  Her family was addicted to diet sodas… “Concerned aspartame would one day lead to illness or disease, she performed an aspartame experiment.  Starting with 108 rats for 2 years and 8 months. “As for dose, she gave the rats a daily dose of NutraSweet comparable to 14 cans of diet soda per day for the females, and 13 cans for the males.” [http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/04/09/victoria-innessbrowns-aspartame-experiment.aspx#!]

Victoria ensured the doses per rat weight was adjusted, using under Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI), set by the FDA and considered safe for human consumption.  However, even after safe adjusted dosage distribution fed daily throughout this time, thirty seven percent of the female rats developed tumors, some of massive size.

“One 12 oz. diet soda contains about 180mg of aspartame/15mg per oz, which equals approximately 4.5 packets of NutraSweet.”  The propaganda industry-machine tells consumers the ADI, set by the FDA equates to about 20, 12oz-diet soda for adults, or 6 for children is safe and acceptable.  If the rats get sick consuming far under ADI, why wouldn’t we?”

The insanity of it all, aspartame was once undeniably opposed by the FDA for approval to marketplace.  And where its chemical composition has not changed since the 80’s and continues to be claimed a safe food additive and recommended by many doctors as a safe sweetener substitute.

IMG_20130405_174805

Our Consumer Recommendation:  Do not consume aspartame, or products marketed under the following brands:  NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, Equal-Measure and Canderel.  Aspartame can be found in more than “now 6,000 products” including, but not limited to:  Diet sodas, juice drinks, flavored waters, chewing gum, table-top sweeteners, diet and diabetic foods, breakfast cereals, such as Fiber One, fiber supplements, such as orange flavored Metamucil, jams, and other sweets.

Be sure to read your food labels to ensure you’re not consuming this dangerous chemical.  Only purchase foods sweetened with natural sugars. If the label does not mention Aspartame, just keep this in mind… If it says artificial, substitute or other sweeteners, chance are its Aspartame or some other generic or similar manmade chemical sweetener.

I try to only consume products with sugar cane, or natural fruits, or one of the 3 major and naturally occurring sugars: lactose, fructose or maltose.  If you’re diabetic or allergic to any foods, or currently have disease, there may be health implications of consuming too many natural sugars as well.  Always seek dietary and medical advice from your doctor when any ill-health symptoms occur.

Is Fluoride in Our City Water Necessary or Safe?

21 10 2012

How we change nature’s good resources into unintended health consequences

In order to determine whether adding fluoride to our public drinking water is safe, necessary or even beneficial for dental health it is wise to first understand its origins and industrial use history.  Especially since man had manipulated this naturally occurring trace element found within mother earth to produce a necessary caustic manufacturing product.  Yes, I did say chemical, as it is not well known to most that the fluoride added to 90% of many public’s drinking water sources is hydrofluoric acid that was once used to manufacture uranium and plutonium bomb-grade nuclear weapons.  Today it is also used within multiple manufacturing firms and known to be one of the most caustic industrial chemicals on planet earth.

Fluoride is also the active toxin in rat and cockroach poisons.  What other industries are dependent on fluoride in manufacturing you ask?  Semiconductors, refining high octane gas, fluorocarbons and chlorofluorocarbons in refrigerants to cool our foods and to keep us cool; fluorescent light bulbs, herbicides, plastics and of course added to many toothpaste brands.

It was the same A-bomb scientist of the day that produced the evidence against fluoride injuries to civilians through litigation; which also happens to be the same person that showed low doses of this chemical consumed by humans to be safe.  This fact in itself should cause one to further think the benefits of water fluorination.

Fifty years ago the government introduced fluoride to our public water systems claiming it would reduce cavities in our children’s teeth.  Of course in the same breath, one must understand with the dawn of the nuclear age came the age of nuclear downsizing and excess chemical reserves.  Chemical companies were hungry to continue generating revenues by finding other uses for fluoride as the nuclear age went bust.  Dumping the excess chemical surplus no longer useful for nuclear enrichment found its way into our drinking water; much like aspartame first an experimental chemical was redeveloped for something other than its intended use.

[Read about Monsanto’s Aspartame troublesome history, and “How Aspartame Became Legal, the – Time Line,” http://rense.com/general33/legal.htm].

Also click on links below to see how this artificial sweetener is greatly responsible for childhood obesity and cancer and why the FDA protects and promotes these chemical products within our consumer markets.

Dental organizations, special interests groups, governmental and other advocates sell to communities that when fluoride is adjusted and controlled in our drinking water it is safe and good for us.  I’ve found much positive data on fluorinated water and children’s dental health care to support this application.  However, I’ve also found just as much data showing when fluoride is added to public drinking water it is not healthy for the entire adult population.  And even when looking at the child’s dental benefits, controlling levels of daily fluoride intake is challenging.  This is because we all consume processed foods and drink products that already contain fluoride in them.

There is also much research data of fluorinated water that shows no chemical difference between natural occurring fluorides found in nature’s consumables vs. public drinking water with added fluoride.  Since our bodies need this trace mineral in minuet amounts, maybe our governments feels it is their responsibility to control safe levels for our dental and overall health sake, based on the benefits of specific research.

However, if that concern was the only reason, then why wouldn’t they also adjust and control the other minerals our bodies need to ensure good teeth and bone health?  Keeping it short, why not add calcium, magnesium, phosphorus minerals also necessary for good dental and bone health… And why we’re at it vitamins A, B’s and C, etc.  Or could the motivation to provide one mineral over another depend on which political and/or economic fence you stand?

So what makes fluoride such a critical nutrient and why are the other essential nutrients to good teeth, bone and “overall” general health disregarded?  Patience, you’ll soon be able to understand the method to the madness here.

Another governmental selling point in getting fluoride into the public water supply is it has a great return on our general health which promotes less sick days and greater productivity, less need for medical services, etc.  Of course when you cherry pick scientific data in support of a health benefit(s), we must learn to understand “any” manmade or manipulated change to our daily diets has the potential to benefit some at the expense of others intolerant of additional [in this case fluoride] chemicals in the diet.

So one has to ask, why fluorinate public water at all if you can simply absorb it through the foods, supplements, drinks and dental hygiene as opposed to subjugating a populace to a questionable and unnecessary chemical additive?  What would motivate our government to promote a seemingly unnecessary chemical proven to cause health risks for adults?  And if nature provides the trace mineral fluoride in its natural form within organic and processed foods and in the bottled drinks we consume, why the continued push to add it to our public water supply?  And in further thought, how could any agency accurately determine the necessary and proper amount of hydrofluoric acid to be added to a water source that would be healthy for everyone?

If dental prevention is paramount why won’t parents take the responsibility to ensure their children are brushing their teeth with proper dental products if that’s what they want as an enamel tooth care preventative program?  And don’t we as parents, health organizations and our schools have some responsibility to educate on good dental hygiene and promote good eating habits throughout the day.  Or is it our government’s responsibility to use our tax dollars on a preventative dental issue that is not a water quality problem?

Although proponents of fluorinated public drinking water say they are simply adjusting the fluoride in our drinking water as prevention against childhood cavities they have questionable arguments on what are safe levels for a medically diverse and aging population.

Again, if it’s not a water quality issue, then what’s the overriding reason to add this chemical to our public drinking water?  Proponents further argue, since fluoride is a mineral and found within our soils and plants and is naturally occurring within our tooth enamel and bone and helps the body to resist disease, than it is reasonable to assume fluorinated water would be healthier for everyone.  After all there are many studies that say this is so.  So that makes it healthy and safe for everyone’s use right?

As you further study this topic it would be easy to make a positive health benefit for any community as a whole because most only get half the picture.  However, the sum of the whole argument falls apart rather rapidly once you begin to dissect the entire cause and effect health case studies connected to fluorinated water [the other 50% of the story].  I’ve published many articles where I state, “Man has yet to create a product that is better for us than God’s natural occurring elements.”  The natural occurring trace mineral fluoride “without manipulation” from mother earth is no exception.

In the early stages of childhood manmade fluoride additives may hold greater dental benefits and lower health risk to a point; but it is not convincing when held up to an adult litmus test.  In fact I found the opposite to be true.  Especially for those susceptible to ill-health risk triggered by added fluoride to the diet outside of the natural occurring trace minerals found within organic food and water.  Even though municipal water experts tell us they can control the levels of fluoride injection into our drinking water at safe levels, you are beginning to understand this is not the whole picture of concern.  This is because they cannot control the cause and effect metabolically this chemical may have for adults sensitive to a manipulated “chemical” fluoride!  And this line of reasoning becomes even more apparent and important once it is understood there is fluoride in many of the processed foods and drinks we consume daily.

The health problems caused by absorbing too much fluoride tend to be more problematic as the body ages, and/or in combination with immune or other ill-health problems.  Our children are also not immune to over fluorination health problems.  They are simply least likely to acquire health problems because of their young metabolisms.  But this façade can change rapidly as young bodies change into adult bodies.

And why do I continue to use the word chemical?  Because when looking at how fluoride got into our drinking water, we need to look back 70 years to see a pattern of consumer deceit.  Most don’t understand in today’s chemical markets that fluoride like many other chemicals where designed and evolved for military warfare.  And then when those chemicals didn’t meet military expectations or went through their lifecycles, R&D (Research and Development) found another industrial use within our consumer product markets.  Fluoride is no exception.  And now powerful lobbyists and market makers in support of lucrative positions support these interests regardless of impact on our public health.

Even though numerous professionals within hundreds of organizations speak out against public water fluorination:  e.g., biochemists, oral medicine, gemology, physiology, orthopedic, podiatrist, toxicologists, EPA, nutritionists, medical associates, Nobel laureates, oncologists, epidemiologists, etc., it will be written “Fluoridation is the greatest case of scientific fraud of this century, if not of all time.”  And that more people have died in the last 30 years from cancer connected with fluoridation than all the military deaths in the entire history of the United States [EPA scientist Dr. Robert Carton (Downey, 2 May 99) and Dean Burk, PhD National Cancer Institute, “Fluoridation a Burning Controversy].

Most don’t understand not only should we be concerned about the water we drink and toothpaste we use, but also environmental pollutants derived from major industries where fluoride is a critical chemical ingredient in the production of aluminum to pesticides.  Within the last 15-20 years a dental revolution against public water fluorination occurred through the discovery of cause of dental fluorosis.   Dental fluorosis is a sign of excessive exposure to too much fluoride.

Although the proponents for public water fluorinations key talking point is tooth decay prevention, there is just as much evidence to support the undeniable health risks to children (Brunelle 1987; Heller 1997; Khan 2005).  One of the greatest concerns is the risk of bone cancer (osteosarcoma) and impacts on the thyroid function and lowered IQ’s (NRC 2006).  And the American Dental Association (ADA 2006) recommends if you can’t avoid fluorinated public water consider using fluoride-free bottled water for infant formulas!

Signs of dental fluorosis include whitish flecks, spots mainly on the front teeth, or dark spots and stripes (most severe case).  If you display these signs then it would be wise to remove this chemical from your diet.  Your teeth are a sure sign that your protein enzymes have become mutated to a point that causes one to age at an accelerated rate.  If enough enzyme proteins change, or become foreign to the body the body begins to die exponentially!  And many other ill-health effects can become problematic within the body, such as:  immune, respiratory, digestive systems; thyroid, brain, liver and kidney functions and blood circulation.  Other autoimmune problems that occur due to over exposure of fluorides on health:  arteriosclerosis, asthma, lupus and arthritis.

The National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research recommends that if children between the ages of 6 months to 16 years of age should need fluoride dental prevention and it is not supplied within a public drinking water source, parents should seek dental recommendation that may include a fluoride supplement if a child is in need.

Dr. Alesen (Former president of the California Medical Association) cites “without a shadow of doubt” dozens of International studies showing us how Fluoride disrupts the bone building process by creating a “calcium out of solution” situation has caused thousands of relational cases of  skeletal thinning fractures, “rubber bones,” osteoporosis, anemia, rickets, calcium stones and crystal buildup in organs and joints.

Although I wanted to find a positive reason to be a proponent of fluorination of public drinking water, I could find no good reason to support a public program that I was not 95% confident it was beneficial to all.  If you do some research over the Internet you’ll likely come up to the same conclusions unless your special interest and livelihood revolves around this chemical industry.  In this case, you’re already sold on the fact it’s a good investment for your communities health and personal wealth.

So who should consumers believe?  I’ll leave you with references cited below.  Don’t take my word on it, I highly recommend you go through the process of discovery and pay close attention to the historical development of this chemical and government and corporate money trail.

Even though the proponents proclaim the return on investment is dental prevention and good bone health, to include less time lost from school and work as a result of fluorinated water’s preventative properties while reducing dental bills and tooth decay by 20-40%; I don’t see the balance to be a positive return on investment.  As far as I can determine, this figure is off-set by a negative ill-health cost effect(s) that would predominately occur within the adult population.   One could instead make a good argument there would be a negative return on investment greater than 50%.

Also consider when you hear a pro-rally public water fluorination pitch…  Be sure to recall that almost every form of processed foods and drinks consumed has been most assuredly manufactured with fluorinated water.  There is no way to know exactly how much fluoride each one of us is receiving daily and no way to know how varying levels of fluoride impacts each of our overall health.  Be sure to also remind them to take a look at their tooth paste labels.  Some sample label ingredients read:  “Active ingredient Sodium Fluoride – Warning – Keep out of reach of children.  If accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.”  And the reason this label warning is on the toothpaste is because if a 20lb child happened to swallow a tube of this toothpaste it could kill that child!  So it is no wonder why an overwhelming portion of the populace is concerned about a chemical so poisonous that the FDA requires a product warning label to consumers.

In summarizing, I stand by what I said in many past publishing’s, if we’re talking about a man made chemical introduced into our daily diet be very skeptical about its motivations and benefits to your overall health.  To help you with your skepticism, also tuck this away in the back of your mind.  As humans we are fundamentally flawed with wanting control, power and greed.  And with that said, unfortunately for some, doing the right thing for the majority is not wired into their moral value system!

Parents should work with their dental specialists in supplementing their children the necessary fluoride if they lack the proper natural occurring fluoride for good preventative dental and bone health.  And our government should only ensure they provide quality drinking water to the public without chemical fluorination because the benefit for the “sum of the whole” does not apply to the majority of a populace.  Also there is no way to guarantee by fluorinating municipal water supplies wouldn’t create other unforeseen, or unintentional consequences that would further complicate our national health care costs, policies, resources and national debt!

10 Super Centenarians, How did They Live over 116?

22 09 2012

Healthy relationships contribute to long life spans

Recently I wrote an article titled “How Did These Well Known Celebrities Live so Long?”  I thought it interesting next to look at the longest living “super” centenarians on record to better understand the similarities and comparisons to the longest living celebrities (“How these Well Known Celebrities Lived So Long).  How did average people live well past 100 years of age and significantly longer than the longest living celebrities that had an average life span of 95 years?

First let’s examine some of the longest living centurion biographies on record starting from the oldest.   And after reviewing these biographies, I’ll attempt to make a correlation as to their longevity secrets.  I’ll then render an opinion as to why I think they lived so long.  It should also be pointed out some of these biographies are rather thin in substance.  This is because in the 1800’s interviews before death and biographical information was difficult to find, unlike our celebrities biographies.

Jeanne Calment (21 February 1875 – 4 August 1997) she lived 122 years, 164 days, place of residence Arles, France.   Jeanne Louise Calment surpassed previous Guinness Book of Record holders as the longest living confirmed human.   It was said Jeanne smoked more than 2 cigarettes per day and after an operation in 1994 she weighed 99 pounds where she became dependent on a wheelchair for mobility.  She attributed her long life and youthful appearance to olive oil which she used religiously in her food and on her skin.  Included within her diet she drank port wine and consumed ~2lbs of chocolate weekly.  In total she outlived 329 undisputedly-verified super centenarians

Sarah Knauss-Clark (24 September 1880 – 30 December 1999) she lived 119 years, 97 days, place of residence, Hollywood and Allentown, Pennsylvania.  Sarah had a career as an insurance office manager and upon her marriage to Abraham Lincoln Knauss (December 19, 1878 – March 1, 1965) she spent her time as a home maker and was a skilled seamstress.  Mrs.  Knauss was known as an extraordinary woman that pushed the envelope of longevity.  It was said, the reason for her longevity stemmed from the fact she was a very tranquil person and nothing fazed her.  Also it is known that she enjoyed life because she had her health and could do what she wanted.  Her interests and foods included: viewing golf tournaments, needlepoint and nibbling on chocolate turtles, cashews and potato chips.  Her only child Kathryn Knauss Sullivan (November 17, 1903 – January 21, 2005) lived to be 101 and was 96 at the time of her mother’s death.

Lucy Hannah (16 July 1875 – 21 March 1993) she lived 117 years, 248 days, place of residence Born in Linden, Alabama and died in Detroit.  She moved in the great migration to escape the racial tensions that where prominent of the times in the Deep South.   Her parents survived slavery for which it is noted they were whipped daily until their freedom and thereafter suffered from trauma as a result of the physical and mental scars.   Lucy married John Hannah in 1901 and had 8 children together.  Two of her children were still living at the time of her death.  The two sisters lived to be 100 years of age.  And Hannah’s mother lived to the age of 99.

Marie-Louise Meileur (29 August 1880 – 16 April 1998) She lived 117 years, 230 days, place of residence Kamouraska, Quebec, Canada.  It is known that Marie was married twice and between the two marriages had 4 children with first husband Etienne Leclerc from 1900 and where he died in 1911.  And then the super centenarian had six other children through her second marriage with Hector Meileur whom she married in 1915 until his death in 1972.  She had 85 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren and 57 great-great- grandchildren and 4 (3 x great grandchildren).  Marie’s death was the result of a blood clot.

Maria Capovilla (14 September 1889 – 27 August 2006) She lived 116 years, 347 days and was recognized by Guinness World Records during her reign as the world’s oldest living person ever in South America and the southern hemisphere in Guayaquil. Ecuador.  It is also interesting to note she is also the oldest human that had a life span living within three centuries.  Born as Maria Esther Heredia Lecaro; she married a military officer, Antonio Capovill after his first wife died.  They had five children together, three (Hilda, 81, Irma, 80 and Anibal 78) of which were at Maria’s side prior to death.  Antonio passed in 1949.  She had 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.  She enjoyed watching TV, reading and walked without the assistance of a cane, but helped by an aide prior to the day of her passing.  She also never smoked or drank hard liquor.

Although home bound for the last two years of life, she shared her home with eldest daughter Hilda and son-in-law.  In an interview her traditional view of men and women stated her dislike, about how women today are permitted to court men, rather than men courting women.

During 2006 near time of death Maria’s health took a turn for the worse.  She could no longer read, she nearly stopped talking and no longer could walk without the assistance of two people.  Just prior to her death she was able to sit comfortably in her chair and fan herself.  She died just 18 days before her 117th birthday.  Cause of death Pneumonia.

Tane Ikai (18 January 1879 – 12 July 1995) She lived 116 years, 175 days, place of birth Kansei, Japan.  She is the only fully verified person within Asia to reach 116 years of age.  She married at the age of 20 had 3 sons and one daughter.  At the age of 38 she left her husband.  At the age of 89 she entered a nursing home.  At the age of 109 she had a stroke where she remained bed ridden in a hospital until her death.   Cause of death kidney failure.

Besse Cooper (26 August 1896 – Living) 116 years and surpassing Elizabeth Bolden’s 116 years, 118 days.  Besse Berry Brown-Cooper of Sullivan County, Tennessee was married to Luther Cooper and had 4 children and widowed after 39 years of marriage.  Luther was 68 at the time of his death.  Mrs. Cooper lived on her farm and moved into a nursing facility at the age of 105.   Recently, Cooper reached her 116th birthday in August 2012, the second-oldest verified person from Tennessee and surpassing Elizabeth Bolden who died in December 2006, at the age of 116 years and 118 days.  When asked what the secret to her super centurion lifespan, she stated, “minding my own business” working outdoors and avoiding most junk foods and ate lots of vegetables.  Occupation: retired teacher.   See recent living update on Besse Cooper:  by Miller, Andy. At Georgia health News link.  http://www.georgiahealthnews.com/2012/08/healthy-life-georgia-besse-coopers-world-beating-longevity/

Elizabeth Bolden (15 August 1890 – 11 December 2006) She lived 116 Years, 118 days and at the time of her death recognized by Guinness as the oldest living person.  She was born in Somerville, Tennessee, the daughter of freed slaves.  She had 7 children, only two of which were alive at the time of her death (Esther, 89 and Mamie 86).   Elizabeth had 40 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 150 great-great grandchildren and 220 (3 x great grandchildren) and an amazing 75 (4 x great grandchildren).  And in her final days of life she resided within a Memphis Tennessee nursing facility.  Elizabeth also lived a life spanning within three centuries.

Maggie Barnes (6 March 1882 – 19 January 1998) She lived 115 years, 319 days, place of residence, Johnston County, North Carolina.  She was born to a slave and married a tenant farmer.  Eleven of her children preceded her in death, while 4 of her other children survived her after death.  Mrs. Barnes died of a complication from a minor foot infection.

Christian Mortensen (16 August 1882 – 25 April 1998) He lived 115 years, 252 days, last place of residence San Rafael, California.  Born in a village near the city of Skanderborg, Denmark, he then settled in Chicago and worked various trades: tailor, milkman, and restaurateur and factory worker.  He was married 10 years, had no children and never remarried.  Retiring near Galveston Bay, Texas; 28 years later it was claimed at the age of 96 he rode his bike to the Aldersly Retirement Community in San Rafael where he stayed until his death.  He’s the oldest living male to date.

When asked for advice on his long life; he stated, “stay away from alcohol; drink lots of water, keep a positive attitude, keep good friends and singing” will help you live a long time.  His diet preferences were mainly a vegetarian diet and he also drank a lot of boiled water.  He also smoked cigars believing if in moderation, it was not unhealthy.

In order to find these 10 centurions longevity secrets, we’ll compare their lifestyles, diet, behaviors and habits to determine common denominators that may have led to their long life spans.  Then through “connecting of the dots,” we may have some answers as to “how they did it.”

Centenarian biographical and interview statements below: “in bold” means there was lifestyle habits, diet and behaviors in common with other centurions.

Conclusion,

All but one of ten centenarians lived in a statistically low cancer state(s) [excluding those that lived outside of the United States].  And all but one of the 10 was male.  Christian Mortensen lived in Texas 28 years and then moved to a California nursing home at the age of 96.  He lived ~48 years in a statistically high cancer state(s), and where it appears he spent the majority of his first ~68 years of life in Skanderborg, Denmark.  He lived ~116 years of age beating all other fellow men in longevity.

It looks like all 10 of these individuals lived within large families; most were married and/or had large circles of various interactive social-family relationships.  And it appears mobility, stress reduction and positive mood disposition was important and major contributors for quality of life and healthy longevity results.  As far as their habits and diets it appeared they moderated the good with “little” bad.  For the most part, their diets appeared healthy and most did not consume any or little alcohol.

Recall, 9 out of 10 of these super centenarians where female.  It is a fact that women live longer than men.  This has a lot to do with genetics, diet, body weight, hormones, immune systems, habits and lifestyle risks.   What specifically separates men from women?  Men are greatly driven by hormones (read importance of testosterone on men’s health, Ref #8) that tend to cause more risky behavior and mood-stress characteristic difference between the two sexes.  Also when testosterone levels drop, or become unbalanced in men during the aging process, this change tends to have a significant impact on men’s health and longevity.

These centenarians shows us they lived relatively balanced lifestyles.  They were physically and mentally active throughout their life span; they enjoyed personal and social gatherings and relationships mostly within large circles of friends and family. And for those residing in the United States lived mostly within low statistical cancer states (Ref #11).

The absolute lifestyle commonalities they all seemed to share regardless of geography:  they lived purposeful and mobile lifestyles, had positive attitudes, maintained low levels of stress, had good sense of humor, enjoyed selfless endeavors and sharing their lives and wisdom with others.  And lived life to the fullest and without the crutch of habitual vices and little use for medications.

Disease is Scientifically Linked to Genetic Engineering of Food Crops

22 08 2012

No Matter Where You go the food’s consumed likely contain artificial chemical sweeteners and GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms)processed ingredients!

I remember as a kid our family would plant 100’s of vegetable seeds in mid May on the family farm.  And this annual planting would produce a multitude of organic healthy vegetables for our family meals.

One of our main crops would be sold at the local market.  What we didn’t sell or consume would then be canned as a provisional food source for our family and would mostly last until the next crops were harvested.  But times have definitely changed from when I grew up.

For as long as I can remember the foods farmed by American families were the most nutritious and healthiest throughout the world.  However, that distinguished honor is no longer the case.  A lot of what’s responsible for this decay of our food source has to do with corporate and institutional greed.  There are a few corporate giants and billionaire moguls that are greatly responsible for this changing global food bank and contributing effect on health risk dynamic.

Let’s begin this informational session by defining a few major players manipulating our food banks and how this manipulation is slowly destroying our health.  And as most may not know the foods industry is made up of 8-10 major food chain monopolies.  But for the sake of simplicity I’m just going to provide examples of one chemical and food manufacturer.  In this way you’ll be able to better understand the economic complexity of why it is so hard to unravel and remove harmful food ingredients from our national and now global food supply.

Monsanto has been producing man made GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) crop seeds and chemical food sweeteners (e.g., Aspartame brands: NutraSweet, Spoonful and Equal-Measure) for some time now.  Many food products you consume from your local grocery store now contain these engineered foods.  The likes of Procter & Gamble (P&G) foods corporation is one of the largest producers of products that are petroleum based and comprised of Genetically Modified (GM) crops produced from GMO’s seeds resistant to herbicides and pesticides as was found to be the case in the popular Pringles potato chip product.

P&G has made much news and reaped much criticism of late with regard to house hold products that are now known to have potentially carcinogenic ingredients [i.e., household cleaners, pet foods, cosmetics and personal care products].   To date they have failed to remove these harmful ingredients within products from our grocery stores.  Also the corporation has been criticized for funding an organization to prevent GMO disclosure laws from becoming public knowledge, while also working to weaken Europe’s laws regarding toxins in household products.

Not so long ago, some 800,000 cans of Pringles potato chips had been recalled in Japan because the potatoes used to make the chips had the “gene-altered NewLeafPlus and NewLeaf Y components developed by Monsanto in the vegetables DNA!  This gene altered potato is approved for consumption in the United States but not in Japan!  So one has to wonder, why is the gene altered potato still sold within American markets and not the Japanese markets?  And should this ban mean something to the American people?  I think it should and the proof is in what P&G did next.  The company decided to focus more on its house hold cleaners and beauty products.

They sold its Pringles business to the Diamond Foods Snack Company for $2.35b in 2011.  Then in 2012 the Diamond deal fell apart and the Kellogg Company bought Pringles for $2.7b in cash.

Could it be that P&G and Diamond Foods Snack Company’s didn’t want the consumer backlash?  Could it be that the new shareholder coalition “Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility” and GMO health risk connection is getting through to 40 plus food companies [i.e., Safeway, Sysco, Whole Foods, Kellogg, Kraft, Heinz, Hershey’s, Starbucks, etc.    The shareholder coalition message to these companies reports how Monsanto and GE foods are bad for Investors, consumer health and carries too much financial risk..

And now this message has spread to the 8th largest economy in the world!

California now supports mandatory GMO labeling as consumers have supported a Ballot initiative in 2012.  Over 80% of those polls support GMO labeling for consumers.  Since California is the 8th largest economy in the world this initiative if passed will have a dramatic effect on changing consumer packaging and ingredient decisions nation-wide.

Also in connecting these consumer dots it is interesting to note Monsanto and Procter & Gamble have the same institutional corporate owners.  The top institutional owner of P&G foods is “Warren Buffett’s” Berkshire Hathaway, Inc., holdings, which owns ~$4.9b in P&G stock (NYSE: PG).  Proctor and Gamble current revenues (ttm) are $83.68b.  Also as of recent, Bill Gates invested and purchased 500,000 shares of Monsanto Stock (NYSE: MON) and supports the use of GM crop technology.

Warren Buffet also pledged to give away his wealth by donating most of his $44.1 billion to charity, where he recently gave away $1.52 billion to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.  So now you can see how these mogul investors keep these man made consumer wheels and profits churning.  It’s very difficult to make change to consumer product laws when windfall profits for investors, employee jobs, market economies and corporate holdings are at stake.  These companies have billions of dollars that continue to put up defenses against consumer safety coalitions.

No matter how much money these corporate and institutional moguls have and/or control, animal studies can’t hide the truths they’ve been hiding for decades.

Animal studies now show that Monsanto’s GMO corn is likely linked to organ damage for which the opposition will continue to pay billions in stating it’s not harmful to us through bias research.  The controversy is there are no human studies to prove there is a significant health risk to consumers.  These defensive positions will continue until our consumers state laws change in forcing corporations to do the right thing; mandated full food label disclosure.

There is reported toxicity reactions divided by the estimated reporting rate and where scientific studies correlate that chronic aspartame ingestion and health damage has affected well over one million consumers in the U.S.   This is not so hard to fathom especially when you think of all the sodas and processed foods consumed on an annual basis.  And these artificially sweetened products is the primary cause of our diabetes and “near” obesity epidemic in this country.

It is also not well known by consumers Aspartame “Monsanto’s artificial sweetener” is 200 times sweeter than sugar per equivalent volume.  And is also one of the most taste altering addictions that stimulaties consumers taste preference for rich high fat calorie foods.  Science has shown us Aspartame products is also responsible for Formaldehyde poisoning!  How’s that?  Aspartame is an unstable chemical when stored (warehousing) too long in warm temperatures, the chemical properties of the artificial sweetener within soda cans for example, converts to another type of dangerous chemical.

Monsanto has contributed greatly to changing our entire food chain by genetically altering many of our food crops DNA molecular structure through GMO technology.

“These GM crops have never before been an integral part of the human or animal diet prior to the mid-latter 20th century.  The health consequences for those who consume GM crop products are currently unknown.  Various scientific animal studies reveal to us that GM livestock feed and processed food ingredients correlate a clear negative impact on the function of the kidneys and liver.  It is more important than ever that more research focuses on the toxicity and mutation these GM crop varieties may have on our vital organs and DNA.

Okay, so then again one must wonder… What does Japan and European countries know that the American people don’t?

The arguments of the opposition are becoming rather thin and transparent to all and won’t be hid for too much longer as was realized in Japan.  No matter how often a company’s merged and/or sells food brands and/or food businesses…  Once GMO labeling becomes law, then there will be no place for these companies to sell their toxic GM and other chemical ingredients!

Looking at Genetically Modified Crops a Little Closer.

GM is an engineered process where a recombinant (genetic recombination) technology uses DNA molecules from different sources to combine and create a new set of genes within our crop seeds.  This is done in order to make our crops more resistant to decay, insects, chemical fertilizers, etc.  In this way farmers can mass produce volumes of what appears to be healthy food for consumer markets.

It’s not just the GMO corn and potatoes that the consumers should be aware of when purchasing product within the local marketplace.  For example, corn is not only available off the husk, but also comes canned, it’s in our cooking oil, processed as corn starch, etc., and products such as cereals and baked snacks (as in seen in our Pringles example) are processed from the same crops which likely have artificial sweetener additives as well!  Let’s not forget about the livestock being fattened up by GM corn feed.  Now you can see how our food and personal use products have been concentrated within our food chain.  And to what degree will it cause us health problems down the road.

Is it any wonder “Corporate controlled and protected artificial sweetener testing continues at Monsanto, torturing the ethics of academic medicine?” [Prevailing Winds, Issue 1, 1995].   They do so without fear of retribution because the FDA, “our consumer protection agency” turns a blind eye by accepting these manipulated corporate studies as safe consumer products.  [US Congressional Record, Volume 131, No. 106, August 1, 1985, pages S10826-S10827]

Why is this happening?  Faster, cheaper, better right?  Wrong!  It’s all about corporate, institutional and governmental greed, power and control.  We the consumers are being hit on two fronts:  we are paying the price by slowly losing our good health and paying higher health care costs in the process which is a major contributor and overburden on our health care resources and national debt problems!

I’ve listed the Top GM Food Crops sold in our non-organic food markets that may contain GM foods.  If you want to know more about artificial sweeteners and GMO crops, simply see the referenced links below.

Corn – Monsanto revealed 50% of American sweet farm growers now use GMO seeds that have been modified to create its own insecticide.  Mice studies show when fed with GMO corn, offspring are smaller and there were fertility problems.

Tomatoes – GM tomato seeds prevent the vegetable from easily rotting and have been specifically engineered for longer shelf life.  Some mice fed these tomatoes after a couple of weeks died.

Dairy Products – Monsanto has created a recombinant (genetically modified) bovine growth hormone that’s injected into 22% of our U.S. dairy cows to increase insulin growth factor (IGF-1).  It is warned by scientists that increase in IGF-1 in humans have been associated with colon and breast cancer.

Potatoes – Mice fed potatoes with Bacillus thuringiensis var. Kurstaki Cry 1 had toxins in their bodies.  Although studies show stability of the Cry1 toxin in the mouse gut, there have been studies that show just the opposite results.

Peas – A gene from kidney beans was inserted into the DNA of peas to create a protein that functions as a pesticide.  This GM crop has been found to cause immune responses in mice.  However, it is not known the impacts on human consumption.

Rice – South East Asia’s rice is now GM to contain high levels of vitamin A.  It is not known if rice production in the U.S. in now GM rice varieties with human protein genes to help thwart infant diarrhea in 3rd world countries.  Unknown allergic reactions and other mutated gene transfers are now of a serious public health and environmental concerned as reported by an online journal, China Daily.

Soy – Products that are manufactured from the soy bean now have the GE resistive herbicide DNA structure within various foods (Soy products: flour, tofu, beverages, oil, pastries and baked products).  Hamsters that were fed GE soy products resulted in infertility and a high mortality rate.

Cotton – Cotton has been GM to resist pesticides like corn and soy.  Cotton is considered food because cooking oil can be extracted from the seeds and consumed.  Thousands of Indian farmers suffered severe rashes upon exposure to Chinese agricultural methods in order to kill the cotton bollworm.

Rapeseed – Canola is made from the edible Canadian Rapeseed crop; which most are familiar as a popular processed cooking oil and margarine.  Honey can also be produced from GM rapeseed.  As much as 1/3 of all pollen present in Canadian honey may likely be GM pollen.  For lack of animal studies it is unclear how these GM food sources will impact our health.

Papaya – Papaya crops produced in Hawaii was modified in 1999 to be virus-resistant.  Also, Monsanto provided Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, India the GM technology to further develop a resistant ring spot virus papaya for India.  For lack of animal studies it is unclear how these GM food sources will impact health.

Now as if consumers need more to worry about.  Research is also beginning to show links to Morgellon’s Disease correlated with GM recombinant foods.

This disease a few years back was a mystery, or something one conjured up in the head.  But the opposite is being shown to be the case.  Patients have presented strange skin irritations, skin anomalies and most specifically a mysterious tiny blue, red and black fiber growth that protrudes from an itchy skin lesion on areas of the body and where GM foods are concentrated, sold and consumed.  There appears to be a direct correlation with these fiber samples that are not of human DNA origins, but in fact when comparing these fiber samples, Ahmed Kilani (researcher) found they belonged to a fungus.  Then it was found by Vitaly Citovsky (biochemist) and determined that these fibers contained a substance called “Agro bacterium.”  This substance is used commercially to produce genetically-modified plant foods!

For now, the lack of national labeling requirements makes it hard to know which foods have GM ingredients.  You’re also now aware ~10 of our major farmed food staples may be partially or fully produced from GM seeds.  And other products such as dairy, fish, meats and processed snack foods could have GM ingredients.

Recommendation – If you currently have immune, or other health, illness or disease issues, or are concerned about GM foods consume more organic foods.  The best prevention to mitigate possible health risks from GM foods is to shop as organic as possible and purchase more foods labeled “certified organic.”  Be sure to vote for GM food labeling laws when it gets on your states ballots!
