Weight Loss through Body Chemical Activation

Any aerobic activity will release addictive body chemicals to burn more body fat and benefit health and fitness levels.

Updated 15 November 2018, Marc Woodard

Any type of physical activity will stimulate the body’s natural release of feel good chemicals to help you lose weight and experience daily wellbeing.

It is the activation of muscle metabolism during low impact aerobics exercise that will activate these feel good chemicals – while simultaneously melting away body fat.

Once you relate to and apply the information that follows – it only takes a little will power to begin chipping away at your weight loss goals and experience wellbeing daily.

The advantage of  low intensity aerobics exercise is it stimulates both the fat burning metabolic engine and activates addictive feel good body chemicals. Unlike high intensity strength and muscle bulking development; and high intensity aerobic exercise – these activities more or less suppress the fat burning engine to varying degree.

Walk to a destination place and fish for dinner.  “Thumbs down no fish.”

What many consumers don’t know is during low-intensity aerobic exercise the muscles metabolism prefers to burn fat fuel.  That’s right the metabolic energy needed to walk over a period of time prefers stored body fat to convert to glucose to fuel the large muscles in the legs and buttocks area.

The same muscles during high-intensity aerobics exercise like running and high impact aerobic dance for instance prefer mostly stored liver and muscle glycogen fuel to convert it to blood glucose [sugar].

The harder you train muscles in the body the less body fat you burn.  That’s a major reason high intensity exercise makes you crave carbohydrates after you’ve finished the workout. And for that reason – IS the reason those folks have a hard time losing excess body weight.

The point is, you don’t have to train hard to lose body fat and excess body weight.

The second point I want to make, regardless of training intensity the body will produce chemicals to addict you to exercise whether your building muscle, increasing muscular endurance, or toning the body.  But if you’re consuming a stimulant, diuretic or anabolic steroid or heavy herb concentrate supplement to “fast pace” any fitness goal, the natural chemicals released by the body will be suppressed and you’ll become addicted to an unnatural chemical supplement that may increase health risk.  You’ll may look and feel good [loss weight, or build muscle, etc.] for a while; but then bad at some point in time…

Unnatural fitness results through the use of fads, gimmicks, supplements and herbal diets are often short lived because their not sustainable habits. In the long run when applying these tactics to achieve a fitness goal – “too often,” may eventually break the fat burning (known as yo-yo dieting), or hormonal metabolism and increase health risk; then cause excessive weight gain.

Eat more healthy whole foods. Cut back on processed foods.

Once you connect how exercise and healthy whole foods dieting increases body chemical activation versus an unnatural fad-dietary course, you’ll better understand there is no good reason to “fast pace” a fitness result (e.g., weight loss).  Thereafter you can avoid the pit falls of unstainable lifestyle habits and ill-health consequences.

The 3 major chemicals the brain/body releases naturally during exercise and supports sustainable healthy weight loss…

1) Adrenaline a neurotransmitter and hormone produced by the adrenalin gland just above the kidneys, also known as norepinephrine and epinephrine (provides attention focus in brain).  Together these chemicals activate your fight or flight stimulation designed to get the body out of a stressful situation, or survive an injury scenario.  It acts as a natural pain killer, boosts oxygen and glucose fuel to brain, muscles and suppresses depression.

Walk your dog to a neat destination place you enjoy. Both receive the natural feel good brain-body benefits.

2)   Dopamine is produced and synthesized in the brain which boosts positive behavior, cognition, motor activity, motivation, sleep, mood, learning and attention.

3)  Serotonin is synthesized within the CNS (Central Nervous System).  This chemical is also found in many mushrooms, plants, fruits and vegetables.

Research shows Serotonin plays an important role in liver regeneration and induces cell division throughout the body (important for repair and healing of the body).  Serotonins role as a neurotransmitter of the brain is to modulate anger, mood, aggression, sleep, sexuality, appetite and metabolism.

Walk the beach and discover cool things.

People are motivated to move or walk for different reasons.  Once you find something that motivates you to move more… you’ll enjoy the natural brain-body feel good chemicals; and want to repeat the low impact aerobics exercise experience daily.

Continuous low impact aerobic exercise like walking, hiking, dancing or riding a bike will release those feel good chemicals and cause “for most” an addictive habit to form – whereas you’ll want to continue the course.  It will take approximately 1-2 weeks to become addicted to daily low-impact walk habit for example.

A little alcohol is okay. Over indulging is a bad habit.

Everyone differs slightly in metabolism, exercise and activity interest, intensity, frequency and duration of exercise activity daily.  For many daily low impact aerobics exercise will cause an instant craving to continue the course.

To maximize the odds of achieving a fitness, health or wellness goal four behavioral habits must be addressed if applicable.  1)  Stop substance abuse.  2)  Eat a balanced and nutritious diet.  3) Allow your brain-body the time to become addicted to the body’s natural feel good chemicals released through low-impact aerobics exercise activity.  4)  Remove yourself from unhealthy and stressful environments.

Bike, explore and get fit.

The increased exercise activities experienced by former clients did not require a lot of will power to perform low-impact aerobics exercise to achieve significant fitness results.

But it did require some lifestyle changes.

For example, when beginning a daily walk program it doesn’t’ requires much will power to get started.  But it does require a commitment.  In other words, the excuse I often hear people use to avoid any form of exercise, “I don’t have the time.”  But if you can make the time you’ll lose weight and feel better almost immediately once you start.  Then become addicted to it within 2-5 days.

The best New Year’s fitness resolution advice I could give anyone, as I’ve done with so many past clients… start a daily walk habit.  Walking is the best low impact fat burning activity whose large muscles prefer fat stored energy and it’s easy on weight bearing joints.

Walk and capture nature in a picture.

I assure you, if you walk a little each day, you’ll begin to release more of those feel good chemicals.  Then body fat will decrease and you’ll have more energy and feel lighter on your feet.  You’ll begin to look and feel better in no time.

If you’ve been sedentary for a long time, walking at first may seem uncomfortable and maybe feel unnatural.  But if you can work up to 15 or 30 minutes or more each day you’ll have significant fitness results success.

Keep this in mind.  Before the automobile how did we survive?

As hunters and gatherers our bodies are designed to get work done by walking.  Walking is a very natural and a primal thing we’re designed to do for a lifetime. I guarantee – if you maintain your walking muscle metabolism you’ll become addicted to sustaining it, and in return for your efforts your body will allow you to live life to the fullest.

Walk to the grocery store to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables.

I’ve had plenty of overweight clients walk or ride a stationary bike for a year before they achieved their weight loss fitness goal.  Thereafter participated in a competitive long distance walk, hike, jog or ran or biked a marathon event.  They never imagined themselves capable of doing anything like it.  They simply believed it possible because they could relate to the muscle metabolism and feel the chemical activation truth working within their brain-body.

Walk a county fair.

Be excited about all the possibilities that lie in front of you and enjoy life to the fullest by maintaining a daily low impact aerobics exercise habit!   Now go get addicted to the natural feel good drugs produced by your own body and reap the ideal body weight, longevity, wellness and health benefits!

Aspartame the Silent Killer

22 02 2015

MirrorAthlete® Original Publication: Mar 25, 2008, Updated:  Feb 22, 2015

Many years back, I posted Dr. H. J. Roberts, Aspartame and Shocking Health Risks, featured in MirrorAthlete’s March 08 newsletter.

I’ve now updated this important topic to a group of new subscribers and consumers. Which include Victoria Inness-Brown’s famous experiment that exposed the truth about Monsanto the manufacture of Aspartame and its harmful effects on human health. Aspartame a substitute sweetener is alive and well and its addictive qualities are now hidden within approximately another thousand food products then when I first posted this information in 2008.

IMG_20130405_174743

While the chemical alone has the potential to make you fall ill with “who knows what,” I believe as scientific evidence showed us during the seventies, nothing has changed except the number of people who’ve become obese and those who now have diabetes disease.  There appears to be a strong correlation between this disease and Aspartames addictive flavor and weight gaining properties.  And this chemical sweetener appears to be a major contributor to an increasing childhood obesity epidemic.  Other illness and disease may be related to Aspartame, but epidemiological and controlled studies are still controversial and inconclusive for various subjective and objective reasoning as you’ll soon learn.

Aspartame History Matters,

“In 1975 the FDA came to the conclusion that aspartame should not be allowed on the market. They requested that further studies be conducted. The FDA’s next move was to set up a public board of inquiry composed of outside experts to investigate the safety of aspartame, and in 1980 that board unanimously rejected aspartame’s request for approval. Another internal FDA panel convened in 1980 also rejected aspartame for approval.  If you count the Bressler Report compiled after 1977, FDA scientist’s uncovered fraud and manipulation so wrought with concerns they forwarded the files to the Chicago U.S. Attorney’s office for prosecution [Mercola, 2015].”

So this was 4 strikes against Monsanto of the times prior to FDA approval. But this didn’t detour Monsanto from getting their product approved to market. Eventually deep pockets prevailed and the FDA approved the chemical sweetener to market. The controversy and untold truths still continue today and the health concerns connected to the Aspartame have only grown. [Refer to www.mercola.com].  Yes the reality is we’re living in a grand consumer experiment.  Where there is no consequence to its creators and/or trustees who’ve unleased a consumer food chemical whose global effects on human health continue to be realized.

Within Dr. Roberts talking points back in March 08, I learned key consumer talking points I didn’t take lightly then, nor should you now.

  1. Aspartame is profitable. For example Maryland-based biotech company Genex Corp., went from reporting $14.3m in 1985 revenues to $2.8m in 1986 after they lost their aspartame business.”
  2. Aspartame was initially listed by the Pentagon as a biochemical warfare   agent. How does a consumer make sense out of this?
  3. Chemical changes occur within Aspartame sodas when stored in warm temperatures. Thereafter chemical properties are transformed into a chemical poison and toxins and bad for our health.
  4. Aspartame is a common sugar substitute in our food chain keeping us overweight and causing diabetes.  Aspartame is extremely bad for those now diagnosed with diabetes.
  5. There is a direct correlation between children with ADD and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and childhood obesity.
  6. Monsanto’s patent on Aspartame has expired, now there are over 6,000 products on the shelves [~5000 known in 2008] containing aspartame.  It is also marketed as NutraSweet, Equal and Spoonful.  And who knows exactly how many other brands or under how many food labels.
  7. Uninformed parents are unknowingly poisoning their children and themselves through easy bake, baked snacks or prepared or processed deserts, soda, ice cream, candy treats, weight loss and dietary foods, etc.
  8. The American Diabetes and Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians know about these health risk connections. While the U.S. FDA and many medical doctors endorse Aspartame as completely safe for human consumption!
  9. Children are specifically at risk and susceptible to Aspartame poisoning because of their thin “undeveloped” blood brain barrier.  This chemical effect on this barrier lowers its resistance to toxins absorbed by the body and increases the potential of neural cell death.

Aspartames chemical breakdown of this brain barrier could leave one susceptible to many types of disease.  For example, Multiple Sclerosis, hormonal problems, Alzheimer’s and dementia, ALS [also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease], hearing loss, Parkinson’s disease, brain lesions, memory loss, epilepsy, neuroendocrine disorders, etc.  The list of potential disease and ill-health problems are too numerous to list.  However, it should be noted if you have symptoms of any of the aforementioned diseases, in some cases once consumption of Aspartame products is stopped the symptoms clear up. [Refer to: http://www.mercola.com, Aspartame: Is This FDA-Approved Sweetener Causing Brain Damage?].

This is why Victoria Inness-Brown’s experiment proved on April 2011 that Aspartame is something all consumers should be educated on. This experiment truly challenged Monsanto and FDA to defend its position that Aspartame is a safe food chemical sweetener.

Summarizing Victoria Inness-Brown’s experiment:  Her family was addicted to diet sodas… “Concerned aspartame would one day lead to illness or disease, she performed an aspartame experiment.  Starting with 108 rats for 2 years and 8 months. “As for dose, she gave the rats a daily dose of NutraSweet comparable to 14 cans of diet soda per day for the females, and 13 cans for the males.” [http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/04/09/victoria-innessbrowns-aspartame-experiment.aspx#!]

Victoria ensured the doses per rat weight was adjusted, using under Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI), set by the FDA and considered safe for human consumption.  However, even after safe adjusted dosage distribution fed daily throughout this time, thirty seven percent of the female rats developed tumors, some of massive size.

“One 12 oz. diet soda contains about 180mg of aspartame/15mg per oz, which equals approximately 4.5 packets of NutraSweet.”  The propaganda industry-machine tells consumers the ADI, set by the FDA equates to about 20, 12oz-diet soda for adults, or 6 for children is safe and acceptable.  If the rats get sick consuming far under ADI, why wouldn’t we?”

The insanity of it all, aspartame was once undeniably opposed by the FDA for approval to marketplace.  And where its chemical composition has not changed since the 80’s and continues to be claimed a safe food additive and recommended by many doctors as a safe sweetener substitute.

IMG_20130405_174805

Our Consumer Recommendation:  Do not consume aspartame, or products marketed under the following brands:  NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, Equal-Measure and Canderel.  Aspartame can be found in more than “now 6,000 products” including, but not limited to:  Diet sodas, juice drinks, flavored waters, chewing gum, table-top sweeteners, diet and diabetic foods, breakfast cereals, such as Fiber One, fiber supplements, such as orange flavored Metamucil, jams, and other sweets.

Be sure to read your food labels to ensure you’re not consuming this dangerous chemical.  Only purchase foods sweetened with natural sugars. If the label does not mention Aspartame, just keep this in mind… If it says artificial, substitute or other sweeteners, chance are its Aspartame or some other generic or similar manmade chemical sweetener.

I try to only consume products with sugar cane, or natural fruits, or one of the 3 major and naturally occurring sugars: lactose, fructose or maltose.  If you’re diabetic or allergic to any foods, or currently have disease, there may be health implications of consuming too many natural sugars as well.  Always seek dietary and medical advice from your doctor when any ill-health symptoms occur.

Get Skinny by Activating Addictive Body Chemicals

11 11 2014
IMG_0277

Any aerobic endurance activity will release addictive body chemicals that benefit health and wellbeing

One way to increase the odds of longevity, good health and wellness is through daily physical activities that stimulate the body’s natural release of addictive feel good chemicals.

Of course eating a balanced diet is very important to sustain good health, body weight and wellness.  But through daily exercise activities the metabolisms effect on will power and motivation to continue it increases everyday you stay the fitness course.

What chemicals are stimulated through exercise and how do they help us sustain the daily activity habit?

1) Adrenaline a neurotransmitter and hormone produced by the adrenalin gland just above the kidneys, also known as norepinephrine and epinephrine (provides attention focus in brain).  Together these chemicals activate your fight or flight stimulation designed to get the body out of a stressful situation, or survive an injury scenario.  It acts as a natural pain killer, boosts oxygen and glucose fuel to brain, muscles and suppresses depression.

How does one initially find the will power and motivation to exercise relative to lifestyle and fitness needs and stick to it?

I do realize exercise activities that work for some may not work for others.  But with a little more insight, maybe a daily workout concept can by applied on self that will resonate with you long-term. If you can commit to a low impact aerobics exercise program daily you will then begin to release the feel good chemicals to make exercise a joy as opposed to a burden and painful experience.

Continuous daily exercise triggers these feel good chemicals and will cause “for most” an addictive exercise habit within 1-2 weeks.  However, everyone differs slightly in metabolism, exercise interest, motivations, intensity and mode of exercise, etc.  For some the body chemicals release an instant craving for daily exercise.  Where for others it may take a little longer once daily exercise begins.  However these addictive cravings for daily exercise may be trumped by bad behavioral habits;  thereby challenging will power and the motivation to exercise daily.  And until these bad habits are changed, modified or stopped, the commitment to daily exercise is threatened.

To maximize the odds of achieving healthy  longevity and wellness 4 behavioral habits must be addressed. 1)  Stop substance abuse.  2)  Eat a balanced and nutritious diet.  3) Become addicted to your body’s natural producing chemicals through exercise.  4)  Remove yourself from unhealthy and stressful environments.

The increased exercise activities experienced by clients did not require a lot of will power, but did require some effort and discipline.  Hence a small amount of will power is required when you begin a daily walking program.

Find a motivator to increase your will power to get you moving.  For example, have a fitness goal in mind: weight loss, body tone, want to feel and look well, etc.  Then start daily exercise slowly by increasing intensity, duration and frequency when your body tells you its okay to do so.  In time your body will release more feel good chemicals, then you’ll become better conditioned as a daily practitioner of aerobic exercise.

The best New Year’s fitness resolution advice I could give you as I’ve done with so many past clients is to start a daily walking habit.  Walking is a low impact fat burning activity.  Many don’t understand the exercise science and benefits of a daily aerobic walking habit.  But I assure you, if you walk for at least 15 minutes a day, you’ll begin to release more of those feel good chemicals.  And in time, your walk pace and distances will increase, so will your muscle tone, metabolism and circulatory function and body fat weight will decrease and you’ll look and feel better.

If you’ve been sedentary for a long time, walking at first may seem uncomfortable and maybe feel unnatural.  But keep this in mind.  As hunters and gatherers are bodies were designed to move by walking.  Walking is a very natural thing for us to do.  And in a short period of time, if you walk daily you will become addicted to it.  From this point forward fitness levels increase and you’ll find yourself challenged and wanting to do other advanced activities you thought were no longer possible.

I’ve had some obese clients walk or ride a stationary bike for a year.  Thereafter participated in a competitive long distance walking, hiking, jogging and biking event, etc.  They never imagined themselves capable of doing anything like it.

Be excited about all the possibilities that lye in front of you and enjoy life to the fullest by maintaining a daily mobility exercise habit!   Now go get addicted to the natural feel good drugs produced by your own body and reap the wellness and health benefits!

New Year's Resolution, "Activate Addictive Healthy Chemicals"

22 01 2009

The secret to living a long healthy life is to learn how to apply positive healthy activities to your lifestyle in order to generate the body’s natural release of these addictive healthy chemicals.   Of course eating a healthy diet is very important to your health.  Nutrition is covered in many other articles I write so this will not be the focus here.  Instead, I will focus on the addictive chemicals produced by the body to further stimulate will power, whereby activity is a “Major” component to healthier happier living and living longer!

You’re body produces natural and addictive chemicals that are optimally activated during exercise, or during increased activity:   1) Adrenaline a neurotransmitter and hormone produced by the adrenalin gland just above the kidneys, also known as norepinephrine and epinephrine (provides attention focus in brain).  Together these chemicals activate your fight or flight stimulation designed to get the body out of a stressful situation, or survive an injury scenario.  It acts as a natural pain killer, boosts oxygen and glucose fuel to brain, muscles and suppresses depression.

How does one find the will power to activate the body’s natural addictive health hormone chemicals and stick to a healthy activity lifestyle?  I’ve been managing chronic pain and bodyweight challenges for the last 10 years and enjoy a quality of life that would not be possible without daily activity.  I do realize what works for me may not work for you.  But with a little more insight provided to you through my example, maybe I’ll provide a plan that will resonate where other fitness activity plans have failed.

As I stated at the beginning of this article, the secret to a healthy life plan is to develop an addictive healthy life program where natural release of feel good chemicals will make exercise and/or activity a joy instead of a burden.  Increased activity through behavioral change will trigger your addictive chemical release within 1-4 weeks, thereby increasing your will power to stick with a fitness program.  This is because each one of us has a different metabolism that may, or may not respond to activity hormone stimulation immediately, thereby challenging your will power until natural addiction occurs due to increased activity.  The requirement to maximize a healthy life program and live longer requires application of three behavioral change categories.  1)  Stop substance abuse.  2)  Eat a balanced and nutritious diet.  3) Become addicted to your body’s natural producing chemicals through exercise.  The increased activity in my life does not require a lot of will power, but does require effort; hence a small amount of will power is required.  By finding a motivator to get you moving and by slowly increasing activity activates powerful feel good and healthy chemicals.  Once you find an activity, or exercise you can start with, you can become addicted to a routine that makes you feel good on a daily basis and wanting more!  I will now provide an example of a healthy annual resolution plan I put into practice daily to improve my overall health, better quality of life, and the will power to positively motivate continuation of this process indefinitely.

Six years ago for example, my New Year’s Resolution was to begin a walking program.  This is because that was the year I collapsed a hip during military training.  Instead of nursing my injuries for months and beginning a “cautious” low activity lifestyle, I decided this was not the direction I wanted to take and was not in my best health interest.  Without increased blood circulation and activity, pain becomes greater due to the bodies inability to stay on the mend, weight increases and then you become susceptible to all types of health risks.  Five years ago my New Year’s Resolution was to further exercise my medical health benefits and visit my primary care physician getting referrals to specialists that would provide valuable insight, tests, consulting and therapy to further learn how I could improve my physical health situation while continuing my walking exercise program.  There are a lot of people out there suffering that have benefits where further referral work could be accessed and never used, this is a big mistake!  Take your health into your hands and do something about your illness or disease before it’s too late!

Four years ago I purchased a gym membership and stuck to an aerobics and stretch program after my first hip surgery and shoulder injuries.  This was a very tough year for me that pushed my physical limits in terms of sheer willpower not to be defeated mentally.  Three years ago my New Year’s resolution was to give up drinking alcohol (not that I consumed a lot of alcohol) and substitute an electrolyte drink, or regular soda once and awhile (not diet – Never Drink Diet – See my article on Aspartame the Silent Killer at the sites Health Repository).  Any alcohol with regard to my predicament was going to be a detriment to my health.  I also continued to participate in a daily walking, gym aerobic and stretch program.  Two years ago I resolved to plan and prepare for a total hip surgery on my other injured hip.  I also decided I would not have a scheduled shoulder surgery.  I instead would do the best I could to naturally rehabilitate my two shoulders through exercise therapy and nutritional supplementation (See our Wellness Company Wholesale products program).

Last year my New Year’s Resolution was to apply all the physical therapy resources at my disposal to rehabilitate myself after a total hip replacement.  This meant being consistent with my in-home therapy exercises, to include using crutches and cane while on the mend.  I continued to go to the gym for stretching activity and instead of walking, used crutches to make small distances each day while managing pain.  I also began a total supplemental pack loaded with natural supper food quality nutrients to my daily diet (see our Wellness Wholesale Company).  Although pain management is not discussed here (visit our Chronic Pain Center) if you have acute or chronic pain, use of pharmaceuticals and natural supplementation within a pain management program can be a positive-negative experience.  The trick to good pain management using pain killers and muscle relaxants during increased activity is “not” to become addicted to these substances while managing appropriate dosages, while minimizing further health risk!

Realize there is a health risk even with moderate use of pharmaceuticals.   If you become addicted to your prescriptions, get help from your health provider!  Always consult with your physician if you will be actively conditioning your body while on the mend and using pharmaceuticals.  This year my New Year’s resolution was to get back into a fitness center as my past years membership expired.  I just signed on to a fitness membership at the beginning of the year.  When in the fitness center I work various resistive weight, stretch techniques and aerobics equipment.  Almost everyday I ensure I walk at least 30 minutes and break to do stretch exercises.

An annual healthy life resolution plan has allowed me to manage weight, pain and while significantly improving life style on a daily basis.  Achieving longer-healthier living while aging is to tap all health knowledge information and apply it to your particular situation.  Find an addictive activity passion!  If you can do this, you can stay on the mend naturally. Be excited about your life while enjoying life to the fullest!  Keep your New Year’s Resolution focused on your health each year.  Healthy body, mind and soul success will be the result of your efforts.  Now go get addicted to the natural healthy drugs produced by your body and reap the enhanced will power, longer living and happier-healthy daily rewards!

Why Should You be Concerned about Triglycerides?

25 10 2008

Q.   What are Triglycerides, should I be concerned?   I received my blood test last week and my triglyceride count was 184.  I was told this is average for my age.  I also had another friend of mine tell me this is high.  I’m not sure I understand what this means to my health.  Can you help provide a little insight?

A.    In a world where everyone is pinched for time; meal preparations within most family units now rely heavily on processed foods for convenience.  Our country has an obesity epidemic in mass proportions occurring especially seen within our children.  It is my opinion triglycerides should be as concerning to an individual that watches their cholesterol intake.  If you are concerned about your cholesterol also take stock of your triglyceride count.   Before I answer your question directly, let me provide a brief outline of what triglycerides represent to our health and why we should care about them.

Triglycerides are a type of fat in your blood much like cholesterol.   Neither one of these fats can dissolve in the blood.  Both fats use lipoproteins to circulate these fats throughout the body to be used by the metabolism.  Cholesterol function is to build cells and various hormones.  Triglyceride function is to provide the body with energy.   However, too much (high levels) of either of these blood fats for long periods of time create health risk and disease.  High triglycerides like cholesterol is thought to cause, or contribute to hardening of the arteries, or increasing the artery wall thickness (atherosclerosis).  Most of us know these conditions can lead to stroke, heart attack and heart disease.  High triglycerides also may trigger diabetes,  or create disease in the thyroid, liver and kidney.  Suspect you may have high triglyceride levels in your blood if you have too much fat around the waist.  “More often than not,” obesity and disease have a direct correlation with high triglycerides, high cholesterol, High blood sugar (glucose) and high blood pressure.  Check your “health risk” to potential disease by entering your weight/height into our fitness calculator at our healthblog page tab (click on the Fitness Calculator Link).

Without a blood test to indicate your level of triglycerides, one may suspect an elevation of the two blood fats if you typically over consume without regard to food intake.  This is not to say one consumes more, or less fatty, or cholesterol type foods.  Blood counts could be inverted.  In other words, you may watch your cholesterol, but because of other food choices, or hormone inefficiencies, consumption of triglycerides in your foods, or hormones don’t store blood fats adequately which can create a constant elevation of  triglycerides above normal levels (hypertriglyceridemia).

Although I believe your triglyceride levels appear decent opposed to many other counts I have seen, the normal level within the medical community sees a normal triglyceride level to be less than 150mg/dl.   Your count of 184 is considered “Borderline High 150 to 199 mg/dl.  High 200 to 499mg/dl, Very High 500mg/dl or above. Note:  Prescriptions can elevate your triglyceride levels, such as birth control pills, diuretics, steroids and breast cancer drug Tamoxifen, etc.

 RECOMMENDATIONS:

 1.  Maintain “Ideal Body Weight,” Use our Fitness Calculator at home site to determine your IBW.

2.  Reduce excess calorie consumption, especially baked goods, processed foods, sugar, white flour.

3.  Reduce trans fats found in many baked goods, cooking, crackers, chips, snack cakes etc.  Note – Just because a product states low trans fat there is still trans fat in most of these types of foods!  Even low level trans fat consumption could increase risk of disease.

4.  Avoid Alcohol.

5.  Exercise aerobically at least 30 minutes daily.

Aspartame the Silent Killer?

25 03 2008

In our March 08 monthly health newsletter, “Looking at yourself.  Got Health?”  You read our editorial “Aspartame and Shocking Health Risks,” exposed by Dr. H. J. Roberts.”   If you would like to receive our free monthly health newsletter, visit www.mirrorathlete.com, enter your email address in the subscriber’s box and then you’ll be on our monthly distribution list.

Within the March08 newsletter we learned some key points:  1) Chemical changes within sodas containing Aspartame are poisoning our families.  2) Related symptoms stopped once the patient is off of diet sodas.  3) Aspartame is a common denominator in our diet making us sick!  4)  There is a significant weight gain connection!  5)  Aspartame is extremely bad for diabetics.  6)  There is a direct connection between children with ADD and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).  7)  Children are specifically at risk and susceptible to Aspartame poisoning.  8)  Monsanto’s patent on Aspartame has expired, now there are over 5,000 products on the shelves containing aspartame; marketed as NutraSweet, Equal and Spoonful.  Uninformed parents are unknowingly poisoning their loved ones.  The American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians know about this connection, also endorsed by the U.S. FDA!  “It’s all about the money and corporate greed!”

There is much information to further substantiate this outrageous chemical food additive practice, but we only have room to scratch the surface.  E.g., Victoria Inness-Brown’s family was addicted to diet sodas… “Concerned aspartame would one day lead to her family’s illness or even early death, she performed an aspartame experiment.  Starting with 108 rats for 2 years and 8 months, daily, she feed a controlled group of rats two-thirds the aspartame contained in an 8-oz diet soda.  Results:  Thirty seven percent of the female rats developed tumors, some of massive size.  Folks this a study where doses per rat weight is adjusted, using under Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI), set by the FDA! “The fact that aspartame is endorsed by the U.S. FDA as a safe product, and is recommended by many doctors as a sweet alternative in lieu of sugar is enough to make you go mad.”  Also, consider these facts, 1) “Does it make sense that what was once listed by the Pentagon as a biochemical warfare agent is now an integral part of your modern diet?” 2)  “Aspartame is profitable… E.g., Maryland-based biotech company Genex Corp., went from reporting $14.3m in 1985 revenues to $2.8m in 1986 after they lost their aspartame business.”  3)  “One 12 oz diet soda contains about 180mg of aspartame/15mg per oz, which equals approximately 4.5 packets of NutraSweet.”  4) The propaganda industry-machine tells consumers the ADI, set by the FDA equates to about 20, 12oz-diet soda for adults, or 6 for children is safe and acceptable (www.mercola.com).”    If the rats get sick consuming far under ADI, why wouldn’t we?”  Friends, it’s simple, “It’s all about the money!”

Recommendations:  Do not consume aspartame, or products marketed under the following brands:  NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, Equal-Measure and Canderel. Aspartame can be found in more than 5,000 products including, but not limited to:  Diet sodas, juice drinks, flavored waters, chewing gum, table-top sweeteners, diet and diabetic foods, breakfast cereals, such as Fiber One, fiber supplements, such as orange flavored Metamucil, jams, and sweets.
