Weight Loss and Fitness Secrets Revealed – New Year New You!

Heritage Trail Tigard, OR – Begin a walking habit.. It does a body good.

Last Updated:  22 Dec 2017

It’s a new year and will it also be the beginning of a new you?

How many time have you tried making a New Year’s resolution?  Or one you’d actually make a commitment to and it stuck?

So what is your New Year’s Resolution, what do you want to change about yourself, or life? Is it to finally lose that excess weight once and for all… start a walk/jog exercise program;  spend more time with the family; get out of an unhealthy relationship; stop a bad smoking or drinking habit; get a new job – move from an unhealthy environment…

Can you guess what the top  New Year Resolutions are for 2018?

As long as I’ve been involved within the fitness industry there have been two top contenders:  Weight loss and get more fit [almost always in that order].

This should not surprise anyone especially when national statistics show nearly 60 million adults, or about 30 percent of the adult population, and now more than a third of all U.S. children are overweight or obese.

To lose weight and increase fitness levels requires a commitment through a healthy lifestyle change action plan.  A major reason New Years Resolutions don’t work – there is no plan to motivate and steer the course.

First you must target what unhealthy environment, habit or behavior is causing the weight gain and unfit condition. Then once you’ve targeted the unhealthy situation – try to incrementally reduce and remove it through consistent healthy habit change.

For instance, if you have a bad habit of eating too many processed foods; cut back on them, or remove the really bad ones from the diet.  OR if you spend most of the day sitting, take a portion of that day and commit to a daily walk, or some other form of aerobic activity you enjoy 15-45minutes/day.  OR if you have a bad habit of drinking too many artificial sweeteners: Aspartame and HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) in sodas, juice and coffee will only add weight… change to drinking more water, natural drinks; coffee and tea without additives.

As a personal fitness trainer and healthy lifestyle consultant for years, I’ve heard an earful on diet-fitness fads and gimmicks to lose weight, enhance physical performance and increase muscle bulk and strength…  people don’t want to change their “I WANT IT NOW” behavior.   Instead they’ve been conditioned to believe they don’t have to change – because the marketplace provides short cuts to heal what ails the mind, body and spirit – NOW.  What many consumers don’t know, those quick results gimmicks and fads makes someone a ton of money at the expense of your health.

Before you purchase the next great diet or fitness fad gimmick, keep this in mind – many weight loss and anti-aging and anabolic-like supplements MAY provide significant results short term for certain groupings of people who’s metabolism is not yet broken.

Notice I said, “NOT YET.”  “It’s not a matter of IF, it’s WHEN –  ‘IF CHEATING the metabolic habit is not broken.”

When products artificially ramp up, or accelerate hormone systems and overall metabolism artificially, those physiological functions and systems lose efficiency and will eventually break and/or cause illness and disease at some point in time.  The manmade CHEATING – metabolic accelerators include: anti-aging steroid-like supplements, high concentrate herbal and anti-oxidant cocktails, etc., designed to help you lose weight fast, increase muscle mass and enhance physical performance – in an unhealthy way.

Natural weight loss, muscle growth, toning, well-being and anti-aging SAFE-programming must be relative and compatible with individual lifestyle change goals.  AND WITHOUT Engineered and Manipulation of Natural products.  Also if a natural or unnatural weight loss program or plan is not relative to a current health or environmental condition; or food variety and personal activity preference… it can’t be sustained long term either.  This includes exercise activity to become more fit.

In other words, if your not enjoying the habit changing experience… you’ll not commit to it long term and then fall for the next marketplace gimmick or fad in attempts to achieve a quick result.

IF you seek professional services to make positive lifestyle change – Buyer BEWARE: Lifestyle change programs designed for one client should not be plagiarized from someone else’s program and applied to you.  If this is the case, don’t expect a similar weight loss or muscle bulking, or toning result.  That is not how relative-personalized, or customized fitness or healthy lifestyle change programming works.

I know most of you have no back ground in customized fitness and healthy habit change programming where natural weight loss can be achieved by anyone and sustained long term [provided an medical condition doesn’t prevent achieving that goal].

If you’ll allow yourself to think in the following terms, you’ll begin to understand the basic foundation of NATURAL fitness and healthy lifestyle change programming logic to achieve a positive lifestyle change naturally. ONE THAT WORKS FOR YOU!

We are all of various age, sex, personality, genetically wired differently, culturally diverse, have different body types; experience various levels of wellbeing, spiritualism, motivation, will power… Have different lifestyle needs and wants within changing social and cultural environments, etc.

Now you begin to understand why one fit healthy lifestyle change program or product will not work for everyone, or in the same way.  AND may increase health risk LONG-TERM regardless of who uses the manmade gimmick or fad flavor of the month.

So how can you successfully and safely plan to create a new you for the New Year?  Especially if lacking the skill sets to make that New Year’s Resolution stick?

If you’ve been unsuccessful in changing any of your lifestyle habits or fitness goals – might I suggest, or recommend a life coach or fitness consultant, or 1:1 fitness trainer professional to help you develop a natural fitness or healthy lifestyle change plan that’s right for you.

New Year New You

21 12 2015

Start a New Activity and Meet New People.
Start a New Activity and Meet New People.

Last Updated:  21 Dec 2015

It’s a new year and will it also be the beginning of a new you?

How many different directions could you take in making a New Year’s resolution that would make you happier, more energetic, feel and look good and more excited about life?

So what is your New Year Resolution, what do you want to change? Is it to finally lose that weight once and for all, start a walk/jog exercise routine, spend more time with the family, get out of a bad relationship-start a new one, stop smoking-drinking, get a new job etc.?

In building any action plan to resolve any problem, “yes this includes a New Year’s resolution,” you first must target what’s causing you to lose sleep at night and focus during the day. Then once you’re sure you’ve identified the problem you must focus and stick to a relative-planned solution “that’s right for you and your situation” to accomplish the goal.

Whatever you need to do to make a positive life change will require 1) courage, 2) will power and a 3) sustainable action plan to see it through. But the forth ingredient in my opinion is the most important because it is the driver of the first three.

The action plan must be 4) relative to your needs and wants so you’ll have the motivation to sustain it long-term.

As a personal fitness trainer and consultant throughout the years, I’ve received an earful from my clients. One thing I’ve learned, the customer often brings a 3rd party solution to the table. But these well intended solutions are custom designed for someone else. All too often in the world of fitness, health and life coaching, custom designed plans are relative to another individuals life goal profile. This means these plans will not work optimally, or work at all for you.

For example, you may share a similar obesity and diabetes condition, but there are many ways to lose weight and treat diabetes. Some treatment plans will work for some and not others, or as effectively.

In other words when I develop a fitness program for one client, I don’t pass it on to the next one who has a similar goal. If I did that I’d lose clients, why?  The Desired results would likely not occur.

We are all of various ages, sex, genetics, culture, body type, mental and physical readiness, have different lifestyle needs, wants and activity goals. Our motivations and will power differ greatly as well as our habits, behavior, environment, medical histories and current health conditions… the list goes on.

So how can you successfully plan to create a new you for the New Year?

If you’ve been unsuccessful in changing any of your life goals might I suggest, or recommend you seek out a life coach or fitness consultant, or trainer that can help you develop a relative customized plan to make that positive change in life once and for all.

New Year's Resolution, "Activate Addictive Healthy Chemicals"

22 01 2009

The secret to living a long healthy life is to learn how to apply positive healthy activities to your lifestyle in order to generate the body’s natural release of these addictive healthy chemicals.   Of course eating a healthy diet is very important to your health.  Nutrition is covered in many other articles I write so this will not be the focus here.  Instead, I will focus on the addictive chemicals produced by the body to further stimulate will power, whereby activity is a “Major” component to healthier happier living and living longer!

You’re body produces natural and addictive chemicals that are optimally activated during exercise, or during increased activity:   1) Adrenaline a neurotransmitter and hormone produced by the adrenalin gland just above the kidneys, also known as norepinephrine and epinephrine (provides attention focus in brain).  Together these chemicals activate your fight or flight stimulation designed to get the body out of a stressful situation, or survive an injury scenario.  It acts as a natural pain killer, boosts oxygen and glucose fuel to brain, muscles and suppresses depression.  2)   Dopamine is produced and synthesized in the brain which boosts positive behavior, cognition, motor activity, motivation, sleep, mood, learning and attention.  3)  Serotonin is synthesized within the CNS (Central Nervous System).  This chemical is also found in many mushrooms, plants, fruits and vegetables.  Research shows Serotonin plays an important role in liver regeneration and induces cell division throughout the body (important for repair and healing of the body).  Serotonins role as a neurotransmitter of the brain is to modulate anger, mood, aggression, sleep, sexuality, appetite and metabolism.

How does one find the will power to activate the body’s natural addictive health hormone chemicals and stick to a healthy activity lifestyle?  I’ve been managing chronic pain and bodyweight challenges for the last 10 years and enjoy a quality of life that would not be possible without daily activity.  I do realize what works for me may not work for you.  But with a little more insight provided to you through my example, maybe I’ll provide a plan that will resonate where other fitness activity plans have failed.

As I stated at the beginning of this article, the secret to a healthy life plan is to develop an addictive healthy life program where natural release of feel good chemicals will make exercise and/or activity a joy instead of a burden.  Increased activity through behavioral change will trigger your addictive chemical release within 1-4 weeks, thereby increasing your will power to stick with a fitness program.  This is because each one of us has a different metabolism that may, or may not respond to activity hormone stimulation immediately, thereby challenging your will power until natural addiction occurs due to increased activity.  The requirement to maximize a healthy life program and live longer requires application of three behavioral change categories.  1)  Stop substance abuse.  2)  Eat a balanced and nutritious diet.  3) Become addicted to your body’s natural producing chemicals through exercise.  The increased activity in my life does not require a lot of will power, but does require effort; hence a small amount of will power is required.  By finding a motivator to get you moving and by slowly increasing activity activates powerful feel good and healthy chemicals.  Once you find an activity, or exercise you can start with, you can become addicted to a routine that makes you feel good on a daily basis and wanting more!  I will now provide an example of a healthy annual resolution plan I put into practice daily to improve my overall health, better quality of life, and the will power to positively motivate continuation of this process indefinitely.

Six years ago for example, my New Year’s Resolution was to begin a walking program.  This is because that was the year I collapsed a hip during military training.  Instead of nursing my injuries for months and beginning a “cautious” low activity lifestyle, I decided this was not the direction I wanted to take and was not in my best health interest.  Without increased blood circulation and activity, pain becomes greater due to the bodies inability to stay on the mend, weight increases and then you become susceptible to all types of health risks.  Five years ago my New Year’s Resolution was to further exercise my medical health benefits and visit my primary care physician getting referrals to specialists that would provide valuable insight, tests, consulting and therapy to further learn how I could improve my physical health situation while continuing my walking exercise program.  There are a lot of people out there suffering that have benefits where further referral work could be accessed and never used, this is a big mistake!  Take your health into your hands and do something about your illness or disease before it’s too late!

Four years ago I purchased a gym membership and stuck to an aerobics and stretch program after my first hip surgery and shoulder injuries.  This was a very tough year for me that pushed my physical limits in terms of sheer willpower not to be defeated mentally.  Three years ago my New Year’s resolution was to give up drinking alcohol (not that I consumed a lot of alcohol) and substitute an electrolyte drink, or regular soda once and awhile (not diet – Never Drink Diet – See my article on Aspartame the Silent Killer at the sites Health Repository).  Any alcohol with regard to my predicament was going to be a detriment to my health.  I also continued to participate in a daily walking, gym aerobic and stretch program.  Two years ago I resolved to plan and prepare for a total hip surgery on my other injured hip.  I also decided I would not have a scheduled shoulder surgery.  I instead would do the best I could to naturally rehabilitate my two shoulders through exercise therapy and nutritional supplementation (See our Wellness Company Wholesale products program).

Last year my New Year’s Resolution was to apply all the physical therapy resources at my disposal to rehabilitate myself after a total hip replacement.  This meant being consistent with my in-home therapy exercises, to include using crutches and cane while on the mend.  I continued to go to the gym for stretching activity and instead of walking, used crutches to make small distances each day while managing pain.  I also began a total supplemental pack loaded with natural supper food quality nutrients to my daily diet (see our Wellness Wholesale Company).  Although pain management is not discussed here (visit our Chronic Pain Center) if you have acute or chronic pain, use of pharmaceuticals and natural supplementation within a pain management program can be a positive-negative experience.  The trick to good pain management using pain killers and muscle relaxants during increased activity is “not” to become addicted to these substances while managing appropriate dosages, while minimizing further health risk!

Realize there is a health risk even with moderate use of pharmaceuticals.   If you become addicted to your prescriptions, get help from your health provider!  Always consult with your physician if you will be actively conditioning your body while on the mend and using pharmaceuticals.  This year my New Year’s resolution was to get back into a fitness center as my past years membership expired.  I just signed on to a fitness membership at the beginning of the year.  When in the fitness center I work various resistive weight, stretch techniques and aerobics equipment.  Almost everyday I ensure I walk at least 30 minutes and break to do stretch exercises.

An annual healthy life resolution plan has allowed me to manage weight, pain and while significantly improving life style on a daily basis.  Achieving longer-healthier living while aging is to tap all health knowledge information and apply it to your particular situation.  Find an addictive activity passion!  If you can do this, you can stay on the mend naturally. Be excited about your life while enjoying life to the fullest!  Keep your New Year’s Resolution focused on your health each year.  Healthy body, mind and soul success will be the result of your efforts.  Now go get addicted to the natural healthy drugs produced by your body and reap the enhanced will power, longer living and happier-healthy daily rewards!

How to Deal with Irritable Bowel Syndrome

15 02 2008

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) creates much discomfort for those that experience the symptoms causing havoc within the large intestine (colon).  The symptoms include, bloating, gas, cramps in the abdomen with pain, constipation and diarrhea.  IBS presents itself to 1 out of every 5 adults and is more prominently exhibited in women starting as early as 20 years of age.  Although IBS creates a great deal of discomfort, it is not a serious health risk (does not lead to intestinal bleeding or cancer).  Common pharmaceuticals prescribed for diarrhea (Lotronex) and for constipation (Zelnorm) to include over the counter medication, which can have serious side effects.

What causes IBS?  No one knows for sure, there is not one identifiable organic factor.  Through clinical case studies and research, scientific consensus agrees the following various factors bring about IBS symptoms:  Individuals with sensitive and reactive colons, immune system, reproductive hormones, diet, stress and emotions can strongly influence the colon.  Since the colons reactive triggers are piped to the brain and are partly controlled by the autonomic nervous system, much like the heart and the lungs; the colon responds to stress (emotions and food intake stimuli) much like the heart and lungs (e.g., being freighted, fast heart beat and breathing, etc.).  The colon reacts the same way by contracting too little, or too much, by removing too little water through the intestinal lining (diarrhea), or too much water (constipation).  Both conditions cause cramping, boating and gas felt within the stomach.  IBS “IS NOT” considered a disease.  Natural Cure Recommendations Below,

Recommendations:  IBS has no cures. You must manage what creates & triggers the symptoms!”
1    Keep a journal of the foods you eat, when you eat and how much (target IBS triggers).  See a physician, or naturopathic physician to present this information to.
2    Reduce large meal intake, which can cause cramping, and diarrhea (smaller meals and more frequent meals), slow eating down, and stop chewing gum, both results in too much gas (air).
3    Check risks warnings on medicines prescribed. Ask your doctor about questionable medications.  Seek professional medical advisement and ask about natural cure management.
4    Remove chocolate, caffeine, milk products and alcohol from diet.   Try removing one at a time to determine if symptoms improve.  Log this information in your daily journal.
5    Remove stress, conflict and other emotional upsetting factors from your lifestyle.
6    Drink 6-8 glasses of water/day, especially for diarrhea.  Don’t drink carbonated drinks.
7    Consume low fat & higher in carbohydrates, such as pasta, rice and “whole grain breads & cereals” (unless you have “celiac disease.”  This disease mimics IBS… If you are diagnosed with this, your body can’t digest gluten (wheat, rye, barley, etc.,) a blood test can rule out if you have celiac disease).
8    Increase fruits and vegetable consumption within your diet and, or see line #9.
9    Supplement your diet with a quality absorbable min & vit’s (See our natural products).
10   Supplement your diet with an autoimmune quality product (See our natural products).
11   Supplement your diet with flora (Good intestinal bacteria) (See our natural products).
12   Supplement your diet with natural menopausal products (See our natural products).
